Eighth Grade Religion Summer, 2012 Have a great summer! See you in August! (God doesn't take a vacation from you; don't take one from Him! Go to Mass in the summer!) Important Things to Know this Week:
Please understand that this weekly plan is just that---a plan. It states where we hope to go and where we hope to be by the end of the week. Usually we are not where we plan to be by the end of the week. However, your child will know where we are. All assignments are to be recorded in the planner with the appropriate due date. Some due dates are the next day, others are longer term. This approach will help the students learn the demands of high school. Students are solely responsible for keeping up with their assignments and due dates. I began conferences with the students a few months ago. We discussed how they were doing in class, they calculated their averages, and we talked about high school and learning about something versus making a grade. They also had the opportunity to ask me questions. It is my intention to meet with every student at least once to discuss their performance in the class. I will get to each and every one as soon as I can. In the spring semester, I will focus on getting the eighth graders ready for high school. As a former high school and college teacher, I know what is expected at the next level. Students are expected to keep up with their assignments on their own. They are also expected to use the resources at their disposal to enhance and extend their knowledge, skills, and learning. They are responsible for doing what they need to do in order to learn the material. There will be more accountability on the part of the student, and fewer open note/open book tests. The exception will be using notes for essays.
