WELCOME 5th Graders!!
"Birds of a Feather Flock Together!"
 
Reading/Language Arts
We cover new vocabulary and reading skills every Monday and continue to reinforce them throughout the week.
Spelling and vocabulary words are sent home Friday prior to the following Friday test day. 
SPELLING WORDS:  Spelling tests every Friday.  Spelling focus this year is learning the spelling PATTERN versus memorizing exact words.  The goal is to be able to spell ALL words containing the weekly pattern.
Key: Spelling words in  bold appear in the selection.
 
Vocabulary:  New vocabulary words are given with spelling, and will be covered as they appear in the text.
This weeks story is RATTLERS! by  Ellen Lambeth

Math
FCAT EXPLORER internet practice is a MUST!!!!!  If you do not have access to a home computer, one may be used free of charge at any public library.  This program will help prepare your child for the FCAT Test in March.   User name and password can be found in the front of your child's homework planner.
 
 
 
You can look at our math book. play math games, and take teacher assigned tests by going to www.pearsonsuccessnet.com
 
 
Science
 
We start the year with
"The Nature of Science" then move on to "Processes that Shape the Earth", "Earth and Space" and "How Living Things Interact with Their Environment"
In the textbook that would be Strands H, D, E, & G
2nd Quarter:  "The Nature of Matter" and "Energy", which are strands A & B in textbooks.
                                              

Social Studies 
We are currently studying The American Revolution
HOMEWORK
Every day we copy our homework from the Homework Board into our Diplomat planners.  But, if we don't
follow directions, we need to call one of our assigned
homework buddies.  Also for homework -
remember to read AR book nightly !!
