~~~~~~~~~ Grade 10- Foundations of Physical Science ~~~~~~~~~
Welcome to 10th Grade Foundations of Physical Science!
Within this page, as you scroll down, you will find the following information that might be helpful for you:
1. A list of the daily objectives for the current cycle, including the homework assignments given each day. This is the information that I will also be looking for when I check student logs at the end of each cycle. 2. A list of important dates for tests, quizzes, projects due, etc. 3. If I can, I will also paste copies of notes sheets given in class, practice questions, and practice worksheets.
I will make every attempt to update the information on this page daily. At the beginning of each new cycle, the information from the previous cycle will be removed to make room for new material.
I hope you find this helpful. Please feel free to use the e-mail link on this page if you have any questions.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CYCLE 6- Daily Logs
2/22/10 – 2/26/10, Monday WU- Look through the CAPT study guide for today’s topic. Mark anything that looks unfamiliar or needs more review. HW- Review the study packet for CAPT. If you want a notes packet to review in addition to the study guide, just ask Mrs. Whitney! REST! Get ready for testing next week. The Science test is scheduled for March 10-11. Objectives: 1. Practice test-taking skills with practice tests. 2. Review Experimental Design and practice CAPT questions to address experiments, problem statements (including hypotheses), data presentation and interpretation, drawing conclusions, assessing validity (trustworthiness) of experiments, and describing improvements to experiments. 3. Review information for the following CAPT topics (aka “Strands”): Chemical Structures and Properties, Energy Transformations, Global Interdependence, Cell Chemistry and Biotechnology, and Genetics, Evolution, and Biodiversity.
Important Dates and Information:
This Cycle is a bit different from others due to the state testing. So, we are focusing on review. As a result, most of this cycle’s grade is based on classwork and participation. If a students chooses not to volunteer in class, he/she can, as always, write ideas each day and turn them in fro participation points.
The Science portion of CAPT is scheduled for March 10-11. It is very important that students get adequate rest to prepare for testing, as well as follow other healthy habits. To encourage this rest, I am not giving graded homework assignments during this cycle. However, that does not mean that students should not use time at home to review information. Please encourage studying.
Information about the CAPT test is available at the following state web address:
http://www.csde.state.ct.us/public/cedar/assessment/capt/index.htm
The information presented there is for the public, and students and parents can access it and use it to help prepare for the test. I have gone over much of it with the students already. In the section called “CAPT Released Items”, you can find questions that were on previous tests. This will help the students see the style of question on CAPT. I recommend focusing on the CAPT generation 3 items, as this is the most pertinent. You can also find a CAPT handbook on “CAPT Resources and Publications” you also can find the CAPT Science Handbook, which provide helpful information about the test. |
