 STUDENT SERVICE LEARNING INFORMATION
email me at kathy.bartolomeo@pgcps.org.

Click here to go to Student Service learning site -
http://www1.pgcps.org/ssl/index.aspx?id=16510, you can download the approval and verification forms here. Keep reading below for more information as well.

Student Service Learning Hours (SSL hours) Information - 6th graders can earn as many SSL hours as they choose.

Before you submit a verification form to guidance make a copy for you records. Schoolmax will only state "met" or "unmet"  for Service Learning hours. By keeping your copies at home, you can track how many you have completed. 24 is the magic number but many students do much more as it is an impressive addition on applications for jobs or colleges.

As the year progresses, Ms. McDonough and I place the hours on SchoolMax for your child. During busy times, keep in mind it may not be done during the month the Hours were performed or given to us.

Student Service Learning hours -Directions**Email me if anyone needs Summer Service Learning Sites. Also, Student Service Learning (SSL) information is found at http://www1.pgcps.org/ssl/index.aspx?id=16520. Put in search window "student service learning".  Forms available here and Volunteer Sites are seen by clicking student or parent.

More SSL approved sites - go to www.1800volunteer.org.
For those locations not approved see me. Keep in mind SSL is for activities that help others, animals, or the environment. A student is to learn about themselves and others from their experience. Do not complete an activity that is not approved until you get our approval as it may not count.
Read over the "Best Practices".
Download SSL verification and approval forms, available on the website, also are in the guidance office. Remember, you must get approval first if the activity is not on the approval list.

6th, 7th, and 8th graders need 24 SSL hours to graduate from high school. It's best to complete by the end of 9th grade as many students are so busy in high school.
