Text: Connected Math Series and supplementary texts and materialsDescription:The overall goal of the Sixth Grade curriculum is to help students develop sound mathematical habits. The Advanced Curriculum is more rigorous, faster paced, and includes some standards from the 7thgrade curriculum. Through their work students learn important questions to ask themselves about situations that can be modeled mathematically. Concepts are based on memorable activities or concrete models. The course is designed to prepare the student to enter Pre-Algebra 1. Books covered include: As review of Prime Time, Data About Us, Shapes and Designs, Bits & Pieces I (review) II & III, Covering and Surrounding, Variables and Patterns, How Likely Is It?, Accentuate the Negative, and Comparing and Scaling . CLASS EXPECTATIONS:1) Every student should bring necessary supplies to class EVERY day. 2) Be on time and in your seat when the bell rings. 3) No chewables or drinks should be brought to class unless directed to do so because of an activity. Cell phones should be turned off and placed in your locker. 4) Make your best effort to successful. This includes completing all assignments of your ability, and seeking extra help when you need it. 5) Show respect for every person (student and teacher) in this class. CLASS ASSIGNMENTS: Class assignments are posted in two places: newSchoolnotes.comand the marker board on the back wall, Assignments should be written in the Planner at the start of each week or by copying the assignments from schoolnotes. GRADING POLICY Grades are calculated by points earned in several different categories that include: notebook, warm-ups, classwork, homework, quizzes, tests, and projects. C: 70-79% D: 60-69% F:below 60% Progress Report Reminders: As the result of paper reduction efforts by the school board, school-wide progress reports will be given one time during the quarter. This will occur at the 4.5th week of the quarter. Do not hesitate, however, to contact me or a team member for inquiries concerning grades. Grade recovery for students who receive a D or F for quarter 1 will be assigned modules to be completed through the Odyssey Compass online program. This is assessable at school and at home. Further information will come home with your child. In order for a student to be permitted to recover poor grades, effort must have been expended during the quarter to master the standards. Grade recovery is not automatic.
