We continued reading Ramona Quimby Age 8, made character cases for Ramona, listened to Charlie The Ranch Dog, and learned cursive J and I. The school's Kennywood Picnic is tomorrow (Saturday) This class continues to amaze me with their excellent reading skills and behavior:)

Today they learned cursive T and F. In English, we read Many Lucious Lollipops and learned all about adjectives. We began reading the Newberry Honor Book Ramona Quimby Age 8 in reading class. Room 206 reviewed homonyms and worked in their Comprehension+ books. The spelling words were sent home today. There are 25 words, but they are review words. We will be having a Theme 5 test this week. The specials were computer and music.

Today we read Sophie's Sponge Cake and Thundercake, learned spelling, high frequency, and vocabulary words. In handwriting, they practiced  cursive A and E. The specials were computer and music.

Today we read Great Aunt Martha and the Carousel. They reviewed the prefix un means not. We attended the 9:30 Liturgy and celebrated the Feast of St. Mark. In reading they read stories about families and baking, worked on their narratives, practiced spelling words, listened to Worm Diary, played Heximania, and  reviewed English skills and (learned that have and has are to be used with seen/gone. Saw/went already tell about the past. Ex. I have seen that before/I saw that yesterday.)

Today they worked completed their Called to His Supper books. We will be practicing in the church with Mrs. Cooper tomorrow. They completed a synonym lesson in Comprehension Plus, practiced cursive strokes, listened to Jalapeno Bagels, and learned more about verbs in English. Today was the last day of the Terra Nova Test. They completed the science and social studies sections of the tests. Thank you for sending in snacks during this time:) The specials were computer and music. We continued to prepare for First Holy Communion in religion-they are so excited about receiving the Eucharist for the first time! We will be having a spelling test on Friday. The words are posted online and they are also in their folders.

We attended the 9:30 Liturgy for to celebrate the St. Bernadette's Feast Day. After Liturgy, the students worked on the Terra Nova practice tests today. The specials were music and computer.

**We will be taking the actual tests for the rest of the week. We ask that the children brink in a snack and a drink every day so that we can take a short break during testing. The Inview (IQ) Test is tomorrow. Please make every effort to have your child in school and on time. If your child is out, please call the school office so that we do not hold testing if he or she is late. Also, please make sure they go to bed early enough and have something for breakfast. This will help them be at their best when we begin testing. All students need two, sharpened #2 pencils with good erasers. Results from the tests generally take about a month to get back from the company. Then you will get your copy.

Hello- I can't believe Easter is almost here:) In religion we talked about the Church's celebration of the Three Days and learned how the symbols on the triptych identify the three days. The students colored and took their own triptych home today. In reading we spent some time reviewing compound words and worked in Comprehension+. They learned more about poetry and continued working on their poems. I hope that all of you have a safe and blessed Easter! See you soon!

Today they students learned cursive y and z. In English they learned to identify the helping verbs have and has and use them with run and come to tell about the past. Have and has are not used with ran and came (Ex. A dog has run after the boy) (The dog ran many times) In reading they learned about poetry and wrote two poems(one word poem and an animal emotion poem) The specials were computer and music. Today they listened to the story Only Emily and learned about making generalizations about things. A generalization is a statement that is usually true based on facts. In phonics, they practiced writing words with -er endings and dividing the syllables. They also learned the new vocabulary words and practiced using them on the Smartboard. During religion they worked on preparing for their First Holy Communion. The specials were library, music, and Spanish. The Tuesday Expresss did not go home today. One of our big fundraisers is The St. Bernadette Basket Bingo and is quickly approaching. In order for the event to be a success, we need your help and still need to complete our basket ASAP. The basket theme is Edge of the Night. The show ran in the late 70's-80's and was a mystery/soap opera. Please send in any donation of money, aromatherapy/spa gifts such as candles, relaxing cd, bath beads, shower gel, bubble bath, sponges, shampoo, looffa, bath salts, lotion, eye mask, massage oil, bath pillow, or any bath items I may have missed. Today they learned cursive letters b and k. They took a short quiz in English and continued centers from yesterday. The specials were art and gym. In religion, they did an activity on being coopertive as a large group as peacemakers. They did a terrific job with the puzzle and I was very proud of the second grade class.

We attended the 9:30 Liturgy this morning. After that, they learned about the suffix -ful means "full of" ex. color+ful=colorful. They practiced cursive, listened to Russel's Treasure and read aloud with it, played a Dr. Seuss Trivia game, and reviewed vocabulary. They also had a surprise this afternoon:) Ms. Davis was our reading volunteer today and she read On Beyond Zebra by Dr. Seuss:)

The classroom welcomed Mrs. Fisher and Mrs. Reynolds in to read McElligot's Pool. The children really enjoyed having them in our room. Thank you for volunteering! Today they reviewed that the setting of a story is when and where the story takes place. They read a story in Comprehension+ and answered comprehension questions. In phonics they learned that if a word ends with a silent e and you want to add an -ed or -ing you drop the e and add the k-ed/-ing at the end. Ex..race/raced/racing. In English, they practiced writing a narrative about someone in their lives who is unselfish. The specials were music, library, and Spanish. The Tuesday Express went home today. Today they read the stories The Octopus is Amazing, Ant, and Thidwick The Big Hearted Moose. They concentrated on finding the main idea in the stories. In phonics, we reviewed adding s, es, ing, and ed to words. The spelling and vocabulary words are posted. There is not a spelling pattern, they are frequently misspelled words.The specials were computer and music.

We started off the day with our First Friday Liturgy. After that we celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday! The children had a blast celebrating his birthday by reading Dr. Seuss' books, eating delicious treats, and playing games. Thank you again for helping out with the party-the kids had a wonderful time. At the end of the day we went to the church for the Stations Of The Cross with our partners. Ms. Sowa and I plan to see "The Lorax" in 3D on Tuesday, March 6th, at 4:30. Today they read The Lorax and we discussed how we need to do our part to take care of the earth. The theme of the story is that "The earth will not get any better unlesss we all do our parts." They also made grass pots of the Lorax, made truffula trees, and did a readers' theater play about The Lorax. After that, we reviewed adding -s, and -es. The children read Cat in the Hat, played phonics games on the Smartboard, practiced grammar skills in Simple Solutions, made hats, and worked on writing a story. They also reviewed that you add s, es, and change the y to an i and add es to nouns to show more than one.

During reading class they listened to Horton Hears a Who and answered comprehension quesions. The theme of the story is "a persons a person, no matter how small." Today the children played -ar phonics bingo, studied spelling and vocabulary words, listened to The Cow That Laid an Egg, and played a Green Eggs and Ham game. They also reviewed the plot of a story and wrote about a surprise that they had. The specials were art and gym.

Homework: Spelling-ABC Order. They are to look at the spelling list and write the assigned list in alphabetical order on lined paper. They can do this a few different ways. One way is: to have the list and lined paper out, go through the words a-z and write them as you find words that begin with a,b,c,d, ect. A second way is easier for the children, but takes more time: have them write their spelling words on cards/pieces of paper, organzie them alphabetically, and copy the words in order to the lined paper.

In reading, they learned the new spelling words with the r sound as in "car" We read Aero and Officer Mike and Officer Buckle and Gloria. They practiced comprehension skills and also reviewed verbs that tell about now (the dog jumps, she swims) The specials were computer and music.

**The students are permitted to wear a Valentine's Day top and wear jeans for $2.

**The Valentines Party is tomorrow afternoon. The children are allowed to bring in a decorated box and valentines for the whole class. They may attach a small treat to their valentine, but please no gum.

Happy Groundhog Day!!!Today we went bowling, listened to A Bad Case of Stripes, wrote a comic about something we like and don't show because we might be embarrased about it (similar to the story), and learned cursive o and a. Room 206 also heard another story about a groundhog.

*Friday is slipper/hat day. Remember to send in slippers in their backpack. They will be playing games and eating pizza in the room during the Luncheon. They are to wear their regular uniform to school:) We will be having Liturgy tomorrow.

We took a short test on nouns and both classes did an excellent job! We learned about point of view and how to identify the writer of a story by using the title and pronoun within the text. Today was crazy sock day and get up and move! The children had a blast singing and dancing all afternoon. The specials were library and music.

Today we had the Junior Acheivement program led by Mr. Webster. The purpose of the program is to teach young people about economics and business. The kids had a wonderful time learning about unit production and assembly line production. After they produced (paper) donuts in groups, Mr. Webster kindly gave every student a donut and drink. The students identified jobs in a community, how people live and work, learned about money,  taxes, and learned about group decision making.

No homework and no spelling test this week!

·        When there is a 2 hour delay called on an “Early Dismissal Day”, it will then be a regular day of school (not an early dismissal day) with the students reporting to their classrooms between 10:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.  The school start time will be 10:55 a.m.

·        As with all 2 hour delays, there will be NO Hot Lunch served.  Students should eat in the morning before they come to school and bring a light lunch and drink to eat in their classrooms.  Please do not send anything that needs to be heated in a microwave as students will not have access to one.

We attended the 9:30 Liturgy, discussed First Reconciliation, and walked through the confessionals. We talked to the children about face to face and screen confessions. In English, they learned that you and an s' when a noun show ownership for more than one. (Ex. two boys' closets, friends' books)  We practiced alphabetical order and learned more about the dictionary guide and entry words. During the afternoon room 205 did several centers.

In reading they learned the new vocabulary words, sight words, spelling. After learning these new words and skills, they listened to the story Millie's arden  and Jamaica Louise James . Today we started cursive! They were so excited to begin this new way of writing. After that, they did centers consisting of The Gingerbread Pirates, reading with me, writing in their journal, playing phonics games, and studying for the spelling test. The specials were art and gym.

The children arrived in school with smiles and were ready to learn and listen. I was so proud of them. In English, they learned about Naming themselves last (Ms. Sowa and I had a wonderful Christmas) The new spelling words were given to them today, they all have the ou/ow sound found in cow. They listened to the stories Cat Up a Tree and Big Bushy Mustached. The special was music. The Tuesday Express went home today, please sign and return it tomorrow:)

Today we talked about sinning and how we can make things right after we sin. We also worked on Christmas projects, practiced handwriting, and discussed New Year's Resolutions.

**No homework! The Christmas is tonight at the church. Your child is to arrive from 6:30-6:45. The show begins at 7:00. They are to wear a Christmas top and school uniform bottoms. If they do not have a Christmas top, please put a red or white uniform top on them:)

Today we continued the centers from yesterday. Mrs. Cooper visited the both classrooms and made a Christmas craft with the children:) The specials were art and gym.

**Both classes earned 50 party points! This means that they have had excellent behavior and are rewarded with an afternoon party. I will provide popcorn, cookies, and juice. They are free to bring in a snack for both homerooms, but it is not necessary. I also told the children that they may bring in one small stuffed animal or doll to sit with during the Christmas movie. (Some students asked about pillow pets and they are okay)

It is so nice to be back! I missed both classes very much:)

This morning we celebrated Mary and attendend the 9:30 Liturgy. The students shared their book reports with the class and we shared the Flat Stanleys that arrived while I was away. The special was gym.

Homework: Spelling-Write spelling words in sentences using the lined tablet paper. They may use up to 3 words in each sentence.

Hello! Both classes finished the Theme 2 test today. The theme test grades will be posted by next Friday on RVS. Due to Thanksgiving vacation and the theme test, we will not have a spelling test this week, but we are having one next week.

Mrs. Forno will be in for me from 11/30-12/7. I will respond to any emails or messages by December 8th. She will be giving the children the spelling and vocabulary words tomorrow for the story Chinatown. She will not be using Schoolnotes, so please remember check your child's folder for any papers, assignments, and homework.

Our class also received an "Elf On The Shelf" from Santa.

***Flat Stanleys due not have a due date, but please send them out when time allows you to do so. The kids get so excited when they arrive at the school.

The children started out their day with an Advent prayer service. During Advent, we pray to show our gratitude to God and we ask for God's help in all we do. Room 206 will be saying the morning prayers for the first week of Advent and wrote about their Thanksgiving vacations. In reading, both rooms took part one of the Theme 2 test. The specials were music, library, and Spanish.

Homework: Read for fun:) Book reports and book orders are due by December 8th.

Today the children attended the 9:30 Total School Thanksgiving Liturgy. They have been learning about Advent and agreed to do at least one nice thing for each week of Advent. In reading they did the Readers Theatre of "Who Is Stronger?" We also received our 1st Stanley in the mail:) It went to a classroom in California!
