Attendance: A successful school experience is the responsibility of the children, the parent and the school. Your child’s progress both academically and socially, are influenced to a great extent by daily participation. Regular attendance without tardiness is a key. If your child is absent from school for any reason, you need to send a note with your child on his/her return to school. Please date the notes and state briefly the reason for the absence. Then write the child’s name and add the parents/guardians signature. Arrival and Dismissal: Students will be permitted to enter into the building between 8:15 and 8:30 AM. Opening exercises will begin precisely on time. Special announcements will be made each morning so it is important for your child to arrive on time. Students arriving after 8:45 AM are considered tardy, and this will be marked on their record. Afternoon dismissal is at 2:30 PM. Carpool students will be picked up in front of the school. I ask that you please stay in your car while in the carpool lane and please move your car as forward as possible. We will escort your child to the car and help them in. Please do not get out of your car and walk up to the building. This creates congestion with traffic and an unsafe situation with children walking in the parking lot while other cars are moving. Please make sure to let me know if you will be changing your method of pickup.
Allergies: Please let us know of any allergies that your child may have, especially with food. We may at times prepare special snacks and it would be helpful to know when we plan a treat.
Bathroom Usage: Please speak to your children about bathroom etiquette. We have many instances of students looking at others under stalls, soap and water being spilled on the floors and children slipping and falling and lights being turned off.
Behavior: We have a color-coded behavior system; your child’s color will be posted in the Student Planner each day. The colors are as follows:
Birthdays: If you wish to have a birthday party during the school day, you must bring the treats to the cafeteria during lunch time. Please let me know ahead of time so I can tell the office. Our lunch time is from 10:23-10:57 am.
Book Orders: I will be sending home Scholastic book order forms periodically throughout the year. This is a great way to help build your child’s home library at a reduced rate. Checks should be made payable to Scholastic Book Club.
Dress Code: Students are required to wear the Somerset Uniform. Both pants and shirts must display the school logo. All shirts must be tucked in and a belt must be worn. Please make sure your child wears sneakers or running shoes since we will be actively involved each day. PE uniform must be worn on PE days, our PE day is Thursday. Please make your child’s extra clothes (hat, sweaters, coats, anything he/she might take off) are clearly marked with their name. Please include a change of clothes in their back pack as well (shirt, pants, underwear and socks).
Envelopes: When sending money (cash or check) to school, please send it in a sealed envelope. Label the envelope with your child’s name, what the money is for, and my name. This way the money will get to where it needs to be, and we know what to do with it. I will search the school folder for any payments.
Homework (Home Learning): Homework will be sent home on Fridays and is due back to school on the following Friday. Please send it back in the Red School-to-Home Folder.
Illness: If a student is ill, the teachers will contact you. You may be asked to pick up your child.
Lost and Found: Any items that are lost and found will be kept in the front office. Labeling your child’s items will assist in returning items found around the school without having to send them to lost and found.
Lunch: Elementary lunch prices are $3.50. Any check that is submitted as payment for lunches must include the student's name, and grade level.
Newsletter: You will receive notices of upcoming events in our Friday Newsletter that goes out with homework. You can access the school calendar on our website.
Questions: If you ever have any questions, please feel free to ask. You can send a note, write me an email, or call the office so that we can arrange a mutually convenient time for a meeting. If sending a note you can either write it in the School Planner. I will look in them everyday.
Volunteer Hours: Volunteer Hours can be completed in different ways. You may donate materials to the class and have your donation count towards your volunteer hours. The best thing to do! There are definitely some items our classroom could use to help it function smoothly this year. Every 4 dollars you spend counts as 1 hour of volunteer time. If you choose to count a donation as volunteer hours please send the item in a bag with your child’s name on it and a receipt. Also if you are planning to give money to the school, a gift card would be your best option. I can purchase items that will directly impact the classroom experience for your child. Your generosity with donations would be greatly appreciated.
Website: Somerset Academy Charter School Miramar Campus has a website which can be accessed at www.somersetmiramar.com. Check in regularly to find information about curriculum, special events, and school news.
Wish List: Throughout the school year, we sometimes need items above and beyond our classroom materials. I will occssionally display a list on the Friday Sharkies Newsletters. Please help us out with any of the items.
ZZZZZZZZ’s: Make sure that your child gets plenty of rest. A wonderful gift you can give your child is setting and keeping a regular bedtime. It will help them be alert and ready to learn each day. |
