Info About The Problem of the Day

Each day the students will be given a word problem to complete in class. The purpose of these daily word problems is to provide each child with vital practice that will aid them in problem solving skills. This will ultimately improve their ability to solve word problems – the basis of seventh grade math objectives, as well as abilities required to master skills presented on the MCT2.

After students complete each Problem of the Day, we will go over every step required to solve the problem in class. They will be allowed to have highlighters or pens to correct any errors they made. Therefore, EVERYONE should have the CORRECT answers to each problem for the final test grade. At the end of each nine weeks, the students will be required to simply copy the work they completed for a few specific problems. This will be scored as a TEST grade. For each problem, they will be required to include the following components: the critical information, the work they did and the answer they formulated. I have included an example question from the Problem of the Day Test 1:

Show the work you did to solve problem number 12.

After school: Google Voice # 601-255-3950

If students have a question, whether it be about homework or studying, they can contact my Google Voice account.  This is for academic communication only!  Please be aware that this is not my personal cell phone number and therefore contact is not guaranteed before the next school day, but I will try my best.  If a student is struggling with a question and I have not yet been able to provide assistance, they should move on and continue their work; any unanswered questions will be addressed the next day in class.  Please always include your name when calling and/or texting this number.  This number will only be available if called/texted before 10 pm.   FYI - all calls and texts to this number are recorded and logged in the system database.

Test & Quiz Procedures

  •  Students will be required to make corrections to ALL tests/quizzes in order to analyze their mistakes. This is very important in aiding students with their reasoning skills.  In order to receive any extra credit, students will have to show work on how they arrived at the correct answer and provide explanations of their mistakes.   However, extra credit for these corrections will be given at the teacher's discretion.

OGMS Goal of the Month: Finish the school year strong and have a great summer break!!!
