St. Raphael School General Music Classes 4th Quarter, 2011-2012 Kindergarten The students will continue to sing songs from the K-8 music series magazine, appropriate for their age and development. The students are currently singing the songs, "Chicken Rap" from the January/February 2012 issue and "Jump" from a previous year issue. The students will always engage in singing sacred music as we prepare for our school liturgies. Grade 1 The students started the fourth quarter with a field trip to Severance Hall to hear the Cleveland Orchestra present an education concert featuring Camille Saint-Seans composition, "Carnival of the Animals". The students listened to the music and class and saw a brief video on the music. The students will continue singing songs from their grade 1 textbooks including, "A Long Way Home", "Listen to the Water" and "When the Train Comes Along". The students will learn patriotic songs as we get closer to Memorial Day. The students will always engage in singing sacred music as we prepare for our school liturgies. Grade 2 The students are singing American folk songs such as "One, Two, Three Alary" and "Old Dan Tucker". The students also learned the songs for our April liturgy, "At the Lamb's High Feast", "We Have Been Told", "We Remember", "I am the Bread of Life" and "Sing with All the Saints in Glory". The students will be singing songs that demonstrate differences in dynamics (loud, soft) and music with movement in "The Dinosaur Dance". The students will also learn patriotic songs as we get closer to Memorial Day. The students will always engage in singing sacred music as we prepare for our school liturgies. Grade 3 The students have continued with the Recorder Karate program from the third quarter. The student have learned the following songs: "Hot Cross Buns", "Gently Sleep", "Merrily We Roll Along", "It's Raining", "Old MacDonald", "When the Saints Go Marching In" and "Amazing Grace". We will finish the year learning "Ode to Joy" and "Immaculate Mary". The students will be singing patriotic songs as we get closer to Memorial Day. The students will always engage in singing sacred music as we prepare for our school liturgies. Grade 4 The students have finished with their study of the musical, "The Music Man". The students have learned the songs, "Pick-a-Little, Talk-a-Little", "Goodnight Ladies", "Seventy-Six Trombones" and "The Wells Fargo Wagon". The students will be learning about the song, "The Edmund Fitzgerald" and facts surrounding the wreck of the infamous lake freighter. The students will be learning songs for May Crowning, Memorial Day and our closing school mass. The students will always engage in singing sacred music as we prepare for our school liturgies. Grade 5 The students used the Garage Band program to create their own beats/composition. They incorporated poems written by the famous poet, Shel Silverstein to "rap" over their compositions. The students presented the raps in class. The students will be working on a mini-musical presentation called "Together: A Celebration of our Global Community". The students will also be rehearsing songs for May Crowning and our final school mass. Prior to Memorial Day we will be singing patriotic songs like "America" also known as "My Country tis of Thee", "America the Beautiful", "God Bless America" and "The Star Spangled Banner". We will continue to rehearse sacred music for upcoming liturgies and prayer services. Grade 6 The sixth grade students sang through the songs in the mini-musical, "I Need a Vacation". The program consisted of original songs: "I Need a Vacation", "Are We There Yet", "Gone Fishin'", "Hit the Beach", "Letter from Camp", "Way Out in Left Field" and "I'm Going to Wonderland". The students have been learning about Michael Jackson, the pop icon, and the rehearsal of what would have been his final tour, "This Is It". The students will be rehearsing songs for May Crowning and the closing school mass. We will be learning songs for Memorial Day: "America" also known as "My Country tis of Thee", "America the Beautiful", "God Bless America" and "The Star Spangled Banner". The students will always engage in singing sacred music as we prepare for our school liturgies. Grade 7 The students will be learning about the British Invasion of the 1960's which included rock groups like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. The students will hear songs such as "Eleanor Rigby", "When I'm Sixty-Four", "Love Me Do", "Penny Lane" and "Norwegian Wood". The students will learn about Beatlemania and the blues-based style of the Rolling Stones. The students sang music for the April Mass: "At the Lambs High Feast", "Sing with all the Saints in Glory", "We Have Been Told" and "We Remember". The students will be preparing music for May Crowning and the closing school mass. The students will learn patriotic songs as we get closer to Memorial Day. The students will always engage in singing sacred music as we prepare for our school liturgies. Grade 8 The students have finished their study of the musical "West Side Story". The students learned the more popular songs from the show, such as: "America", "Maria", "One Hand, One Heart", "The Jet Song" and "Tonight". The students will start exploring Garage Band for the iPad which allows for a higher level of creativity than the Garage Band program on the student computers. The iPad gives the students more opportunity to create their own beats and accompaniment patterns. The students will be preparing music for May Crowning and the closing school mass. The students will also be learning patriotic songs for Memorial Day. The students will always engage in singing sacred music as we prepare for our school liturgies. |
