The year is rushing by. It has been an adventure in learning.  Our team is departmentalizing to maximize learning opportunities for our students.   We are also following an inclusion model.  Our resource teachers and tutors will have a more direct affect on classroom delivery.  This was proven to be very effective last year for both the AIG and EC services.  We are excited to be a part of this plan.

Ms. Gina Ritchie has begun her semester of student teaching.  We are excited to have her here at Rockwell.  She will be teaching in my regular schedule beginning January 25th.  Each week Ms. Ritchie will pick up a new class.  After she has taught full time for about a month, she will decrease her load by one class each week.  I hope you have the opportunity to meet Ms. Ritchie and encourage her as she begins this new phase in her life.

In my morning classes, our reading unit is based on a study of basic reading strategies.  Students are working in small groups where they are practicing comprehension strategies which will enhance their understanding and enjoyment of a variety of texts, both fiction and nonfiction.  We are connecting with characters who are experiencing challenges in normal, daily situations.  Our research project in social studies is based on our ability to read and evaluate information.  We are realizing that reading is a part of almost everything we do.

In the third quarter, we will concentrate on geometry and fractions.  Students will explore simple and complex number relationships.  We will continue to work on computation throughout our year.  Practice at home on basic computation is valuable; as well as nightly reading and table conversation.

Please feel free to contact me concerning your child at any time.  My number here at school is 704-279-3145.  If I don't have the answers you need, I will work to find them.  Together we can make this a productive experience in your child's life.  I am looking forward to a wonderful school year.
