Here is the information for AICE General Paper:

  • At the end of the 1st semester, all 10th grade English Honors students will have to option of changing to the AICE General Paper class
  • Nothing in the instruction of this class will change – same teacher, same schedule.  Students will still receive direct instruction on improving writing skills.  The only change will be on paper (class name will change).  Also, the weight of the class will change from a 4.5 to a 5.0.  This is for the 2nd semester only.
  • On May 7th, all students who registered for the class will sit for the exam.  It is a writing exam that will take 2 hours for 2 essays.
  • When students pass the exam, they are able to use the class as a college credit (depending on the college they choose to attend), and their GPA will benefit from the increased weighting.
  • Also, students who sit for the exam will not have to take the English 2 Honors EOC.
  • Whether or not a student passes the exam will have no effect on the semester classroom grade.
  • Any student who signs up for the class but does NOT sit for the exam will have the class changed back to English 2 Honors and will have to take the EOC.
  • All students are to report to the United Methodist Church gym at 3 PM on Monday.  Arrange for your ride to pick you up at 5:30.  Leave your cell phone at home!!!  There will be a phone at the desk if you need to use a phone.

Next Literary Analysis due 3/15/2012 (critique due 3/2)

Week ending 3/16/2012

Because we are so slammed with work this week, this is my offer.  If you would rather turn in your Literary Analysis on the Monday we return from Spring Break (3/26) you may do so.  However, if you would like to turn in this assignment on the original due date (3/15), I will commend your hard work and add 10 bonus points to the assignment.  Whenever you decide to turn it in, you will need to print the receipt.

Monday – Final assignments due for Lord of the Flies Packet.

  • If you have been turning in assignments early, then you will only need to print hard copies for assignments you have not yet turned in (booklet, poem, art work).  If, however, you have not been turning assignments in early, you will need to print a copy of each to turn in.
  • ALL DOCUMENTS must be submitted to TurnItIn.com.  You MUST print your receipt from your email so I can see what you have submitted.  All work must be 100% original (except song lyrics and passages from the book).
  • We will be in the Media Center for much of the day for EPAT practice, so try very hard to get all materials printed at home.  Do report to the classroom before heading to the Media Center.

Some reminders for this assignment:

  • Include the passage that was the inspiration for your drawing on the FRONT of the drawing.  I want to display them.
  • Make sure your typed work is all in size 12 font.  For the booklet, it is not necessary to double-space your work.
  • Speaking of your booklet – don’t forget to cut each page and staple at the end to make a booklet.  Also, don’t forget to include the picture of the symbol you chose to write about.
  • You only write about ONE theme – for the booklet, you will choose 4 different symbols and explain how they support the theme you have selected.
