Welcome to Mrs. Patton's 7th Grade Science Website! October 23rd, 2009 We're already off to a great start with a great group of students. Our first week was spent discussing our school rules and procedures, and then we moved in to the foundation of science, which includes the primary steps of the Scientific Methods. We spent a few days learning about the microscope, how to set up an experiment, how to analyze data, and how to communicate results. We then moved on to our first unit, which is on the Atmosphere, Air Quality, and Weather. We spent the first quarter covering these topics. Students are tested on this unit on Thursday, October 29th. We'll also spend as much time as we can working in the computer lab and the media center to help prepare our 7th grade students for next year's computer test. After students return to school from their day off (Oct. 3th), we will begin cellular biology. We will discuss the differences between animal and plant cells, mitosis, and meiosis. I rarely assign homework for my science class, but I do request that they write in their journals recapping the days topics we have discussed that day. Parents and students can always check our Homework Hotline which is updated daily by 4:00 p.m. Parents are always welcome to come to my classroom to visit or assist us if we are doing group activities. I will also keep this website updated as our curriculum changes. Parents and students can also go to the North Carolina Department of Instruction to review the North Carolina Standard Course of Study, where you can see all topics that my class will discuss during the entire school year. More to come! |
