A new box tops contest has begun! The Spring contest will run from February 6 -24th. There will be one winner from Preschool & Elementary. The class that turns in the most will win an Ice Cream Party. You may turn in Box Tops for Education and Campbells soup UPC codes.
Jesus Loves Me Party
On Tuesday, Feb. 14 we will have our Jesus Loves Me (Valentine's) party from 2:15 to 3:15. All parents are invited to the party. Remember LCA policy states that siblings are not allowed at parties. Mrs. Ferrante is organizing the party. If you have any questions, please contact her.
At the party, students will be decorating a bag to collect their Valentines in. Here are the names of the 13 students in our class: Bailey, Aryn, Elijah, Brent, Ben, Ronnie, Victoria, Jayme, Ella Grace, Brooklyn, Tiffany, Belle, Matthew.
Math Facts Ice Cream Incentive Contest starts Feb. 13
For the next 10 weeks, 2nd graders can earn points towards an ice cream sundae!!! Each point earned goes towards a portion of an ice cream sundae at the 2nd grade Math Facts Ice Cream Celebration on Friday, April 27.
Points are earned by doing well on each week’s Math speed drills. Each week’s speed drill sheet has 4 speed drills. If a student gets a combined average of 90% or higher for that week’s speed drill sheet, he/she earns a point towards their sundae. For each point they earn, they earn a specific portion of their sundae: · 1st week with 90% or more on speed drills–earn 1 pt for bowl · 2nd week with 90% or more - earn 1 point for a spoon · 3rd week – earn 1 point for first scoop of ice cream · 4th week – earn 1 point for second scoop of ice cream · 5th week – earn 1 point for sauce (choice of: chocolate, carmel or strawberry) · 6th week – earn 1 point for whipped cream · 7th week – earn 1 point for sprinkles · 8th week – earn 1 point for chocolate chips · 9th week – earn 1 point for a cherry on top of the sundae 10th week - catch-up week Here’s an example of how this works: If student “Smarty Smith” gets 90% on the first week’s (Feb. 13-17) speed drill sheet, he earns his 1st point for the bowl. But the following week (Feb.20-24), Smarty does not earn at least 90% (because he didn’t study his facts!) so he doesn’t get a point that week. The next week (Feb. 27-Mar. 2) Smarty decides to study his facts again and gets 90% on his drills. He then earns his 2nd point for the spoon. And so on… You can’t skip items – you have to earn the items in order. The whole idea is to encourage students to study the math facts. As of this week, we have learned the addition facts up to the sum of 14, and the related subtraction facts (subtracting from 14 or less). We will be learning more facts in the next 10 weeks that will also be tested. (See Math section of each week’s Schoolnotes.) Several math fact websites are listed as attachments below if you need other ways to drill these facts. I just know all the 2nd graders will work hard on this so they will have really cool sundaes at our party! I’m getting hungry already!

Six Flags Six Hour Reading Log Here's your chance to win a Six Flags ticket for the summer! All you have to do is to read 6 hours by Feb. 27th and you're going to Six Flags. Parents, please encourage your child to read, read read! You may read with your child. Whenever your child picks up: a book; magazine; newspaper; or the Bible, all you have to do is: time them; record the: title, author, and time along with your initials. Believe me, you can do it! There's nothing more pleasant than right before bed time when your parents read you a bedtime story...right?! That can count for your minutes also. If your child asks you to take turns reading any genre, that counts. You can do it!! We all can! Six hours before Feb. 27th. You can count the same minutes on your 6 Flags log from your Reading Log in your red folder. If you extra space to record your reading, simply use another blank sheet of paper and attach it to your form. ---------------------------------------------- Please be on time to class each day. Our school day starts at 8:45 am.

Spellingcity.com has been updated with the 13 spelling words for this week. This is a great way for your child to study their spelling words each week.
If for some reason, you need to check your child out before 3:25, you MUST sign them out in the office. Please be aware that once you come up to get your child, it may take them several minutes to get theirs backpack and folder ready to go. Also, please email me or send a note in your child's folder if you do need to pick them up early. Thanks for your understanding in this matter.
Please make sure your child goes to the restroom before they come to school each morning.
If your child makes below 70 on any assignment, it will come home with a sign and return stamp on it. Please sign it and return it to the school the next day.
