Welcome back to school wildcats! We are back in the swing of things. We started off our week discussing and reviewing classroom rules and expectations. We also made class New Year's resolutions. This included listening, being respectful, learning one thing new each day, reading more, writing neatly, etc... We are half way to 3rd grade! Can you believe it? The expectations are there and I am sure we will have a wonderful 2nd semester in 2nd grade!
IMPORTANT!!!!! -
1. Flat Stanley projects are due Monday, the 12th!
2. 2nd grade will be performing at the PTA meeting on Tuesday, Jan 20th at 6:30. We have been working hard to prepare for this. Please, if you can, make arrangements to come that evening for the meeting and special performance.
Here's what's coming:
Language Arts: We will be reviewing verbs and plurals. We will also be working on our sequencing skills with the story The Mitten.
Reading: We will be reading The Mitten by Jan Brett along with some other winter stories. There will not be any comprehension test this week as I will be conducting DRA testing for the middle of the year.
Math: We will continue to work on subtraction of one and two digit numbers. We will also learn how to use addition to help us solve the problems and check our answers. Here are the steps we have reveiwed in class when solving a problem: 1. Look at the ones 2. Regroup if needed 3. Subtract the ones. 4. Subtract the tens
Science: We will be continuing our unit on weather and will learn about wind, weather tools, and measuring degrees in C and F.
Social Studies: In Social Studies this week we will learn about The Colonies. We will discuss the life of a colonist and explorers. Next we will review our map skills with learning about a History Map. We will discuss how the thirteen colonies became one country and how they wanted their independence from England.
