MATH - We are still working with shapes are are currently practicing symmetry.  Homework is to cut out 5 different symmetrical shapes from the paper provided and GLUE them onto the orange paper!  The shapes can be anything.

FIELD TRIP permission slips were sent home today.  On Tuesday, May 8th the entire second grade is going on the Just Ducky Tour and having a pizza lunch when we return to school.  More info will be given as to what the children will wear (most likely gym uniforms).

We had a fun assembly today!  Please ask your children about the Chinese Acrobats who performed this afternoon.

The Lorax was a great movie.  I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did:)

I am able to get a group discount for the tickets today at Destinta as long as they are all purchased together. (3-D tickets normally cost $10 but I can get them for $8 each.) I will have to purchase all the tickets on one transaction so everyone would need to pay me back in order to get the discount, so PLEASE DO NOT BUY YOUR OWN TICKETS!!!  I will be there by 4:15 to start taking count of who all is attending.  If you do not have cash on you today the money can be sent into school tomorrow.   See you there!

Happy Leap Day!!

We had a lot of fun in math class doing Leap Day Activities.  Students measured how far they could leap, counted how many hops they could do, they skip counted by 4's, multiplied by 4's and divided by 4's.  

MATH - HW is to complete the Sudoku puzzle.  We will start subtraction next.

Today we walked over to church to see the traveling statue of Our Lady of Fatima and to say a quiet prayer while we were there.  I am very proud of the reverence all of the second graders show in church.  

Total School Liturgy is on Friday as well as Stations of the Cross for second and eighth grade students.

MATH - Complete Ch 14 Review/Test.  Test is tomorrow.

***I just wanted to give the second grade parents a heads up to something that Mrs. Mathias are hoping to do.  We are both very excited about the upcoming release of "The Lorax" and are planning on seeing the movie one day after school next week and anyone who is interested in joining us is welcome.  We are tentatively thinking of going on Tuesday and I'll provide more details once the movie times are posted.  We are hopeful that there will be a showing after school at Destinta!***

Our Inflatable Party was a bunch of fun!  Tomorrow we are bowling in the morning and students are to wear their gym pants and shoes with a favorite sport shirt.  Please remember to send in the permission slips as well as pizza order forms.  They MUST be in by tomorrow!

Wear sweat suits tomorrow or any kind of active wear, it does not need to be gym uniform!  We are having our inflatable party tomorrow afternoon.  It will be lots of fun:)

MATH - Room 205 ~ complete up to Lesson 84 and Room 206 ~ Complete up to Lesson 82.  If it appears that your child has many lessons to do at one time it may be that they are not using class time properly to keep up with where we are in the book!  If more time is needed to catch up then the books can go home on the weekends.  As far as the problems being asked, there are subtraction problems that require regrouping and some students are able to complete them and others are still learning them.  Those are the ONLY questions that should be skipped if needed.

Wow, your children have been working so hard to get projects completed for Catholic Schools Week!  I am very proud of their efforts:)  I hope that you are able to join us on Sunday at 1:00 for Open House.  If your child brings a friend with them they will receive a free dress down pass.

MONDAY, January 30th is Patriotic Day and a $2.00 jean day.  ALSO ----there will be no hot lunch served.  All children will need to pack!

MATH - We are practicing regrouping by trading in ten ones for one ten and vice versa.

If your child is still needs to make their First Reconciliation please let me know when you are scheduling it for.  I would like to be there if my plans allow!  Have a great weekend:)

MATH - We are practicing taking surveys, reading charts and making graphs!  Homework is WB pgs 55 & 56.

SOCIAL STUDIES - We have been learning about the different ways to name where we live.  Ask your child to list some!

Total School Liturgy is on Friday.

We are collecting money for the "Gina Jug" to help find a cure for Mitochondrial Disease.  The classroom that collects the most money wins a popcorn/movie day!  The money collected from today's jean day was added to the jug!

I am still in need of a parent volunteer to teach Junior Achievement on Monday, January 30.  Training will be on Tuesday, January 10th in the library.  If two parents want to participate that is fine too!  Don't be intimidated...they are a great class:)  Please let me know, tomorrow, December 22nd if you are willing to do it.  Thank you!

Our Christmas Party is tomorrow morning from 10:30-11:30!  Students may wear a Christmas top for free & if they want to wear jeans it is $2.00.  Dress down passes may be used.  There is also an early dismissal so please make sure your child is aware of how to go home!

MUSIC CONCERT TONIGHT!!  Please drop your child off in Biedenbach Hall between 6:30-6:45 PM without their coats~take them back to your seat! The show begins at 7:00 and the second grade will be sitting on the left side of the church behind the choir section.  Children are to wear their school pants/skirt/jumper with a Christmas top if possible.  If they do not have a Christmas top then a uniform top in red or white will be fine.  All students will stay with Mrs. Mathias and I after the program until a parent comes to pick them up.  They will be instructed to stay with us until we see a parent, thank you for your cooperation with this. 

Tomorrow , Wednesday, December 21, is a regular school day with Liturgy.

Thursday, December 22, is our Christmas party and an early dismissal day.  Students may wear Christmas tops for free and may also wear jeans for $2.00.

Junior Achievement Day is on Monday, January 30th and I am looking for a parent volunteer from Room 205 who would be interested in teaching it.  You will be provided a packet as well as training.  The training will be in the library on Tuesday, January 10th.  Please send me a note, along with your contact info, before Christmas break if you are interested.  Thank you!

Happy St. Nicholas Day!  Buddy & Sparky (our elves) must be delivering great reports to Santa on how the second grade students are behaving since they had a secret visit from St. Nicholas today:)

MATH - WB page 44.  Please practice telling time~especially on analog clocks!  We have discussed in detail how the hour hand starts to move as the minute hand moves.  When it is 3:30, the hour hand is in between the 3 and 4 since it is past 3 o'clock but not quite 4 o'clock.  When they are drawing the hands on the clock I do expect the hour hand to be between hours if needed:) Thanks!

No Mass tomorrow....we have First Friday Liturgy this week.

RELIGION (205) - We have been praying the Rosary everyday this week however today we got caught up in a story about Our Lady of Fatima and ran out of time.  It would be great if the children could pray one decade of the Rosary at home either by themselves or as a family.  It would include one Our Father, 10 Hail Mary's and one Glory Be:)

MATH - We are practicing writing numbers in different ways.  Homework tonight is a candy corn worksheet that needs completed on both sides.  The children should use their math notebooks to help with spelling the numbers correctly.

SCIENCE - We have many monarchs in the chrysalis form.  IT will take a week to 10 days before we have butterlies!

RELIGION (205)- The month of October is a special month in which we honor Mary.  We have been, and will continue, praying the Rosary in class.

SOCIAL STUDIES - We have been discussing community laws and school rules in class and how they are made to keep us safe.  Homework is to draw 3 -5 signs you would see that are laws, for example a stop sign, speed limit, etc.  Use the paper provided and neat work is expected.  Children should know what the signs they do mean.  Papers are due on Thursday.

SCIENCE - I bought Monarch eggs and caterpillars today...they will be here soon!!

MATH - We reviewed addition patterns, doubles and making tens and we will have a Chapter 2 test tomorrow.  Homework tonight is the Review/Test (both sides).  Chapter 3 is on subtraction.

SCIENCE - We labeled the parts of a plant and are discussing how seeds are scattered.

SOCIAL STUDIES - Using the SmartBoard the class practiced placing the states correctly on a map.

MATH - Complete both sides of the worksheet.  Tomorrow we will review Chapter 2 and the chapter test is on Friday.

SCIENCE - Both caterpillars are in the chrysalis stage and they should be butterflies in a week or two!  Most years I have had a large number of caterpillars in the my classroom, however I have not had any luck in finding more on my own.  Because of this I am resorting to purchasing them :( and I hope to have some Monarch eggs next week so that we can observe each stage of the life cycle.

MATH - Today we reviewed skip counting by 2's, 5's and 10's.  Please continue to practice this skill at home and incorporate it in everyday activities!  Homework is WB pg 2.

SCIENCE - We continued discussing our Monarch caterpillar and today it turned into a chrysalis!  It was very exciting to see some of the process in class.

It was great meeting and seeing so many of you yesterday at orientation.  I understand that the beginning of the year can be overwhelming with so much information so please do not hesitate to ask if you have any questions or need clarification on something.

Our first full day was fun and successful.  We spent a good part of the morning organizing and passing out supplies.  Please try to get your child's supplies in by the end of the week.  If you are unsure as to what they still need, send in a note!  Also send in a note if your child is going to go home differently than normal.  We had bus practice today and all students knew their correct bus but it can be difficult to remember changes in the normal schedule, so a note is helpful....Thanks.

MATH - We reviewed numbers today and homework is a worksheet.

RELIGION - (Room 205) Prayers that will be said during the day were passed out and the decorated.

SCIENCE - We discussed monarch caterpillars.

Remember to pack lunches all week. 

***Room 205 may bring in a small beach towel to be kept in school for class work to be done on the floor.***
