Some quick notes

Hi everybody, I have a few other things to share.
1. I need a favorite recipe from each family. It will be part of a Mother's Day gift that your child is making for you. Please send one in for May 1. Thank you
2. We really need Kleenex so if anyone would like to contribute, it would be helpful. The class is averaging a box and a half a day. Baby wipes are also in somewhat short supply.
3. Study Island asignments that I gave out yesterday (some were too difficult) I had to go back in and set new parameters. Your child can play the game mode at home. In school, they have to use the test mode, unless they bring in headphones or ear buds so that they do not disturb others.
World Book On Line for kids

Hi everyone, I have just added a new link to my March page for World Book on line. I showed the children some features of it today in the classroom and they were very excited. I think you will find it very child and parent friendly. It gives a trremendous amount of resources, fun games, projects, research material etc. It's really amazing and free. Also, I don't know if you're aware that there is free homework help available for all children in RI, grades K-12 from 2PM to 10PM during the school week. Help is available in Math, Science, English, Social Studies, and Writing. It is live chat with teachers. The teachers may not answer the homework questions but will guide and suggest ways for problems to be solved. (The site is http://www.askri.org) This is RI's Statewide Reference Resource Center. It is free for all RI residents. It may not be something you would need for second grade but for those of you with older children it's a great resource.
Communion/First Penance Meeting Last Night

It was great to see so many parents at the meeting last night. I just wanted to let you know that you do not have to worry about the form of the Act of Contrition that was in the booklet that was passed out last night. First of all, they are going to do a general Act of Contrition at the actual service so the children will be told that they do not have to actually say the Act of Contrition when they go into the confessional. However, if they want to, your child can say the Act of Contrition that we say daily in the school. The one that was passed out last night is a newer version that I was just given on Monday. I told Mr. Sousa and Father Frank that our children were already prepared for Penance and have learned the school version. They said this is fine.

September News There is a spelling test this Friday, the 23rd. There is a booklet due for the regular reading groups on Friday. The assignment for this one is to bring in pictures of themselves and be able to talk about them. The specific directions were attached to the booklet. They are being assessed on their ability to speak to the class about their pictures. I told them that they can talk about 4-5 pictures only. So even if they bring in a whole album, time only allows for them to talk about 4-5. I sent a book order home last week. It is due on Friday. I process the paper orders over the weekend and generally the books come within the week. If you wanted to order on line, you need to go to the scholastic site and register your child's name, attach it to my name, school, and classroom, and use the activation code that they give you. It is a one time code. You will then be prompted to set up your own individual user name and password. I tried doing it myself as a fictional parent and it worked. Please let me know if you have tried and cannot access it. Have a great week!
