                                    JUMP ROPE FOR HEART
Students in grades 2-5 will be participating in the "Jump Rope For Heart" fund-raising event. The event will take place February 24th, 25th, and 26th during regular P.E. classes. All donations will go to the American Heart Association to support the fight against heart disease and stroke.


***All students will participate in the jump rope activities as part of our regular P.E. class.

Dates for money to be turned in:
Wednesday classes: Wednesday, February 17th.
Thursday classes: Thursday, February 18th.
Friday classes: Friday, February 19th.

3RD QUARTER
GRADES K-1

Grades K-1 will focus on the following activities during 3rd quarter:
1. Jump rope- Students will begin with simple jumping techniques involving lines and hoops. These techniques will then be applied using the jump rope. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in the Kangaroo Club. In order to qualify for this club, the student must jump rope the minimum number of jumps determined for his/her grade level. Jumping must be continuous- no interruptions.

KANGAROO CLUB


Kindergarten 15 jumps

1st Grade 30 jumps

2. Games- Students will continue to play different games which require teamwork and cooperation.

3. Ball Handling Skills- Students will focus on such skills as bouncing, rolling, catching, and passing. A variety of balls will be used to help with the coordination of these skills.

GRADES 2-5

Grades 2-5 will focus on the following activities during 3rd quarter:

1. Jump Rope- Students will review the basic jumping skills. They will be introduced to a variety of jump rope activities including single jump challenges, partner jump, and long jump rope skills. Students will have the opportunity to participate in the Kangaroo Club. To qualify, students must jump rope the minimum number of jumps determined for his/her grade level. There can be no stopping or interruptions between jumps.

KANGAROO CLUB


2nd Grade- 45 jumps

3rd Grade-60 jumps

4th Grade- 75 jumps

5th Grade- 90 jumps

2. Fitness Test- Students will participate in the President's Challenge Physical Fitness Test. Test items include:
CURL-UPS
SHUTTLE RUN
PULL-UPS
SIT and REACH
MILE RUN

3. Games- Students will play a variety of games which require teamwork and cooperation.

 IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT STUDENTS WEAR REGULAR TENNIS SHOES IN P.E. CLASS. TENNIS SHOES ARE THE ONLY SHOES THAT ARE SAFE AND APPROPRIATE FOR THE ACTIVITIES IN THIS CLASS. PLEASE HELP YOUR CHILD REMEMBER TO WEAR THEIR TENNIS SHOES ON THE DAY THAT THEY HAVE P.E.


FOR SAFETY REASONS, STUDENTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IF THEY DO NOT HAVE ON TENNIS SHOES. 

SLIDE ON SHOES, SANDALS, FLIP FLOPS, HIKING BOOTS, COWBOY BOOTS, AND ANY SHOE WITH METAL HOOKS ARE NOT APPROPRIATE FOR P.E.. AGAIN, THIS IS FOR THE SAFETY OF ALL OUR CHILDREN.

3 TIMES IN ONE QUARTER WITHOUT TENNIS SHOES = "N" FOR THE P.E. GRADE.
