Second grade students will be working with the Fundations Phonics materials this year. They will begin by reviewing consonant & short vowel sounds, digraphs, and consonant blends. (See the main page.) In Language, we are studying the parts of speech: nouns, pronouns, verbs, and adverbs. In class we are starting the year by reading poems and silly stories. In all units, we will be looking at some fiction and non-fiction reading selections, accessing ways to find more information, and doing some writing activities. Please encourage your child to read every night for 20 minutes: Reading, like everything else, gets better with practice!
