Welcome Sea Otters!
Check below for all supplies you will need for the 2009-2010 school year. E-mail Ms. Knieberg at the link above if you have questions over the summer. Be sure to keep a list of all the books you read this summer to include them in your 25 book list!
Weekly Overview
This year, to help out the students and the parents, the Sea Otter team will provide an overview of the week's activities to all of our students. One copy will be stapled onto the current page of the planner. A second copy will be given to the student to take home to the parents. Please place these on the refrigerator, or wherever it would be the most helpful at home. This will have all of the classwork and homework for the week, along with upcoming projects and any other important information the students and parents may need.
Teacher Wish List items: 4. solid color plastic plates (dessert size plates)
Please remember to bring paper, pencil or pen, and notebook every day. Remember to pick out a good book for your book report. For your book report: write a brief summary of the book, including the name of the book, the author, the main characters and the number of pages. Include a paragraph or two on what the book is about and a paragraph on your favorite part of the book. The next book report will be due on Wednesday, October 21. Book reports will then be due on EVERY Wednesday that IS an early release day. Be sure to use either of the book report forms that are in the file on the wall or the one given to the students earlier this year.
We are going on our first field trip to see the Shanghai Acrobats at FSCJ (formerly FCCJ) Wilson Center on Beach Boulevard on Thursday, November 19. The show starts at noon, so we will be leaving school at 11:15 a.m. After the show, we will have lunch at the China Buffet in Regency - by Babies 'R Us and Hobby Lobby. We will return around 3:00 p.m. The cost of the field trip is $23 - $10 for the show ticket, $10 for the lunch (which includes all you can eat buffet, drinks, tax and tip), and $3 for the bus. Money and permission slips should be turned in by Thursday, October 15th. The permission slips went home on Thursday, October 1st. Parents are invited to attend at the same price - if you are interested in attending, please contact Ms. Knieberg and let her know. There are special forms that must be filled out through the county for parents who wish to chaperone a school-sponsored field trip.
If you would like your student to practice FCAT Explorer at home, here are the guidelines for getting in. Step 1: go to fcatexplorer.com on the internet Step 2: the student's user name is their last name and first initial of their first name: John Smith would be smithj. Step 3: the password should be in all lower case with no spaces. It starts with the district number, which is 16, followed by the first 4 letters of your child's last name, followed by the birthdate (day and month) in numbers. Example: John Smith, who was born on June 5 would use this as his password: 16smit0605. If you have any problems logging on, please feel free to contact us for assistance.
As a result of the District’s Paperwork Reduction Committee recommendations, we will only be sending official progress reports home once per quarter. The next progress report will be sent home on _____ and this will be the official report for the second nine weeks grading period. Individual teachers or teams may send progress reports home with students on a more frequent basis, but this is not required. Teachers will continue to provide scholarship warnings to those students whose grades have dropped significantly, are not meeting the standards or are in danger of failing. If you have questions about your student’s grade, you are encouraged to contact the teacher directly. Check back often to see when the parent grade portal will be opened. When this occurs, you will be able to pull up your student's grades and attendance in all of his/her classes. This is scheduled to begin sometime the second quarter.
