Week of January 30^th:

Happy Catholic Schools Week! Thanks to everyone who was able to come out Sunday for mass, the kids did a wonderful job! I couldn’t think of a better class to represent our school during this special week! We have a lot of fun activities planned for this week. Monday we will be doing a story hour with the 2^nd graders. I have paired the students up and they will take turns reading a book to a set of 2^nd graders. They will work with them after on summarizing the story. Wednesday is student appreciation day. We have gym that day but students are allowed to wear red and white as a sign of school spirit but make sure they wear gym shoes so they can participate at gym. Thursday is set aside to honor our dedicated volunteers. I would like to especially thank all of you for all that you do. Lastly, Friday is career day. Each student has written an essay on academic career they would like to aspire to be. On Friday they will dress up as that person. We will be holding a short presentation in Ward Hall in the afternoon where children will have the opportunity to hear from a group of people in various professions. Also, just as a reminder I will be starting Family Life this week. We will begin on Wednesday. I will be teaching them everything in that parent connection booklet I sent home as well as a course on human reproduction. Just a warning to be prepared if they come home asking questions. Here is what is going on this week in our curriculum:

Reading/Spelling: We will be reading a story this week called Blancaflor on pgs 324-341. It is a folktale. We will be working on skills, visualizing and theme. We will have eleven vocabulary words. Our spelling and vocabulary/reading test on Friday.

Science: We will be starting a new chapter in science this week. We will be studying Earth’s landforms, the features of the ocean floor, and Earth’s layers. Our test on this chapter is scheduled for Tuesday February 7^th.

Religion: We will be taking Chapter 9 test on Monday. We will begin Family Life on Wednesday. Family Life will take 3-4 weeks

Math: We will be working on Lessons 68-70 this week. Test #13 will be on Thursday covering lessons 65-70. Math lessons are getting more difficult. Please review these lessons with your child and encourage them to come to me for help if they are struggling.
