Welcome to Ms. Deegan's 4th Grade Class!

IMPORTANT REMINDERS!

Reading Homework is due EVERY FRIDAY. You must complete the specific assignments outlined for each day of the week. In order to get an A, you must complete 40+ points.

Spelling Packets are given EVERY WEEK. This is completed individually and turned in every Friday. You are given 7 days to complete 30 points worth of assignments. These assignments help prepare you for the spelling tests. which are given on FRIDAYs! 

All  Missing Assignments are due no later than 6/1/12

Please remember to return your Friday Folder and Checklist on Mondays!!

  • Monday 5/21/2012 - Section 6 Due - MD PROJECT COMPLETE!

MARYLAND PROJECT:

Section 1: A Look at my State Introduction

  • Title Page
  • Scenery – include pictures of the state
  • Physical Map – Shows the land and water areas of the earth and gives their names.
  • Political Map – Shows nations, cities, and states as well some rivers, lakes, and other bodies of water.
  • Why is Maryland important? Write a persuasive paragraph to introduce people to your state.

Section 2: Include visual illustrations and labels for each of the following

  • Flower, Motto, Bird
  • Song
  • Tree, Flag
  • Seal, Nickname

Section 3: Geography

§  Location – On a U.S. map, color your state red, and the bordering states yellow.

§  Physical Features – Identify 3 important physical features (mountains, rivers, lakes, etc)

 

Section 4: History

  • Timeline - create a timeline of key events that occurred in Maryland
  • Historical Figures – Look up 5-8 famous people from Maryland and why they are famous.

Section 5: Things to See and Do  -Why would people want to visit Maryland?

  • You are to select 10 places in Maryland that people should visit when they come to Maryland.
  • You do not have to physically go to each place. You can take virtual tours online!
  • Write a 1 page summary describing each place. What makes it a fun attraction?
  • Include pictures, brochures, etc (It would fun if you visited each place!)

 

Section 6: Fun Facts about Maryland

Include interesting facts and trivia about your state. These should be fun facts that people might be interested to learn.

Below are some examples:

  • Wildlife
  • Plant Life
  • Sports
  • Vacation Spots

* Extra Credit – You will design a one of a kind postage stamp for the state of Maryland. In the stamp, include the state name and important pictures or symbols that represent Maryland.
