Math4Today Procedures and Expectations-
Math4today is a skills review program that gives students 4 problems to complete each day. Normally students do this for 4 days (Monday –Thursday) and then test on the fifth day (Friday). I am only giving the test every other Friday and it combines the skills from the two weeks. This is not an overwhelming amount of material because it is mainly a repeat of skills for both of the weeks. Students can tell when we are ready for a test because we will have completed the front and back of the sheet in their folder. I discuss the answers and model how to solve the problems during the week. Students are expected to check their own work (place a check if correct and if incorrect write the correct answer) as we discuss them in class. On the Thursday before the test I tell students which type of problems that they need to review. Students should be thinking about the steps used to solve the problem. They should not try to memorize answers because it will not be the same problem on the test but they need to understand the steps it takes to solve that type of problem. Students should show their work for the math problems when needed. They have room to do this on the back of the test.
Also some students are still struggling with multiplication facts. I suggest that these students do a daily review of facts through flashcards or online games. The lack of knowing their multiplication facts will also affect how well they are able to handle the fraction skills that we will be covering later.
*Please know that students have their Math4Today folders and that they can bring their folders home on any day. I only ask that they make sure to have them in class everyday. The Math4Today program is very important and students should follow all the procedures and meet all the expectations in order to be successful with the tests.
The next Math4Today test will be this Friday, September 30th
I am changing the date of the Science Test on Ecosystems to Friday, September 30,2011. I want to cover some additonal information and have a class period to review. Please continue to have your child to review the previously mentioned materials. Thank you
