Physical Education

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am excited to begin another year teaching your children in the Physical Education program. I¡¦ m striving to develop a program where the student¡¦s have an abundance of opportunities and every student can be successful. Our program allows the student¡¦s to experience team and individual activities in a non-competitive environment. I am striving to develop a life-long learning and appreciation for activity and recreation in your children.

I ask the student¡¦s to be prepared for every class by following a few simple guidelines:

1. Wear the SS. Simon and Jude gym uniform, blue shorts and white shirt with school logo, , sweats with school logo. Or  our new uniform is a yellow shirt with maroon shorts. White socks with no logos above the ankle.

2. Sneakers are imperative on the wood floor and must be secure on the foot. No slip on shoes or shoes that can fly off the foot. No roller skate sneakers

3. No Jewelry of any kind. This is for the student¡¦s safety and the safety of other children in the class. If a child wears jewelry they will be asked to take it off. If they are habitually wearing earrings, I will give them a mark.

4. You will hear a lot about respect this year from your student . Respect for other students as well as the gym equipment will be emphasized.

Grades four through eight receive a physical education grade on their report cards. The following rubric will be applied:

1. Unsatisfactory. Demonstrates little or no understanding and limited achievement of the Physical Education standards targeted during the marking period.

2. Needs Improvement. Demonstrates some understanding and minimal achievement of the Physical Education standards targeted during the marking period.

3. Developing Appropriately. Demonstrates satisfactory understanding and adequate achievement of the Physical Education standards targeted during the marking period.

4. Exceeding. Demonstrates complete understanding and high achievement of the Physical Education standards targeted during the marking period.

The targeted standards will be:

„« Prepared for every class

„« Cooperation and conduct

„« Participation in the activities planned and the teams assigned

„« Performing skills and activities at the individual¡¦s level.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am at school Tuesday through Friday.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Genuario
