Wednesday: Music Thursday: PE Don't forget to wear tennis shoes! Friday: Art Lunch: Our lunch time is at 10:50. You are welcome to join your child for lunch. Please sign in at the office. As always, Wednesday folders will go home with your child on Wednesdays. These folders contain important notices from administration. I will send home your child's work on a daily basis. Please review with your child. Children have homework every night. Please check your child's agenda daily. This week's spelling words can be accessed online. Spelling words for the week and math vocabulary are located in the Flashcards folder. They are not in any particular order, so you will have to scroll down until you find this week's words. Make sure you click on the back and front icons below each flashcard in order to view all of the words. Every week we will have a Word of the Week. This week's word is throng. On their spelling test, the children have to spell the word, name the part of speech, and use it in a sentence. It is worth 5 points of extra credit. throng: (noun) a large group of people. Example: Whenever I strike out, a throng of people are at the game. . Math: We are continuing our unit on multiplication. The students must know their multiplication tables 1-12 by the end of the Thanksgiving break. We will begin timed tests in December. We continue to review addition, subtraction, place value and rounding. We will continue reviewing these important concepts throughout the school year. Spelling: The spelling assignments will be in your child's agenda daily. It is important to develop daily homework habits. Daily: READ, READ, READ, READ, READ, READ, READ and record it on your reading log. Students are required to read for at least 30 minutes a day. The vocabulary lists that are sent home to review for the next week's story can be included in this 30 minute time frame. Don't forget to record the minutes on the reading log!
Language Arts: We are beginning Unit 3: Incredible Stories This week our story is Dogzilla. Genre: Fantasy The dreadful Dogzilla destroys the streets of Mouspolis, ruining the city's cook off. Brave mice attack, but Dogzilla's terrible doggy breath defeats them. Finally, the mice come up with a better plan - BATH TIME! Dogzilla flees, and Mousopolis is saved, at least until next year (Hougton Mifflin Reading Series, p. 303A).
High Frequency Words: Third grade is responsible for learning an additional 100 words, for a total of 300 words, by the end of third grade. The children must be able to read, write and spell these words. To view these words, click on the flashcard icon in the top left hand yellow box. We continue with our unit in Social Studies: Relationships Between People and Geography. The children are learning about their physical environment. Science We are beginning our unit on Plants. If you have any expertise that you would like to share with the class, please let me know!
A website that the children love to go on is www.freerice.com. On this website, the children can go to different subjects and answer questions. With every correct answer, 20 grains of rice is donated to end world hunger. The subjects that they should practice are vocabulary and math facts. This site adjusts the level of difficulty according to the number of each individual's correct and incorrect answers.
