1st Quarter 9 Weeks’ Exam:  Book Experience

Project

6th Grade Language Arts

Name: ________________________Period:_____

PROPOSAL DUE: Tuesday, Oct. 13

FINAL PROJECT DUE: FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2009

We’ve been reading a novel in class and now it is your turn to respond to the novel.  The project that you choose will count as your 9 Weeks’ Exam grade.  Pick a project and do your very best! (Pick only one!)  Due:  Friday, October 16, 2009

1.        MAGAZINE INTERVIEW:  “Interview” one of the characters in your novel.  Write up the interview like you would see in a magazine (ask me for an example if need one).  Lay out your page like an actual magazine, including pictures and color.

2.       BOOK JACKET: Make a new cover for your book.  Include a short SUMMARY on the inside flaps, a catchy BLURB on the back (to get people to read it) and QUOTES of recommendations from real friends of yours (and you) about the book.

3.       SCREENPLAY: Take a key scene from the book and re-write it as a script for a movie (or for the stage).  Be sure to include setting details and stage directions.  You will need to add some dialogue.  It should be at least 1 ½ typed pages (double-spaced) or 3 pages written.  Be true to the characters and the scene.

4.       VIDEO:  (Same as above, but on video instead of as a typed script)  Simply get your family and friends and act out a scene from the book.  Have someone video record the scene.  Please submit your final video on DVD or as an email attachment. [This can be a group project if approved ahead of time.]

5.       DRAMATIC READING:  Choose a passage from the book to read and record.  Include sound effects, different voices for different characters, and some sort of thematic music.  You need an introduction where you as the reader set up the scene, tell WHY you chose that one to read, and what the SIGNIFICANCE of the scene is to the rest of the book.  Your finished recording should be AT LEAST 4 minutes long.  Please submit your final on CD or as an attached email file. [This can be a group project if approved ahead of time]

6.       3-D Model:  Create a 3-D model of the setting of your book.  Include as many details from the novel as possible.

7.       YOUR OWN GREAT IDEA:  Got another great idea?  Super!  See me for approval.

I would prefer that all assignments (except video, audio, or diorama) be TYPED.  If you do not have access to a printer, then please write neatly in blue or black ink only.

Please see the back for the PROPOSAL and RUBRIC.
