WELCOME TO ROOM 6Second Grade
Please remember to send in a snack with your child. Check this page for updates. Use the e-mail link above to contact me with any questions you may have. Our week 10/6/08-10/10/08 Math: We completed our Button Unit with estimation and place value. You received the first group of triangle flash cards. Please have your child use these at home to aid with fact fluency. Reading: In reading we continued to work on main idea and details with non-fiction text. Matt and Tilly was our read aloud story from our anthology. It was a great text for focusing on beginning, middle and end. This skill was integrated into writing, we are reviewing the components of a good story using the writing diamond. Have your child tell you about the comparison of a good meal to a good story. They both have to have a beginning, middle and end. Spelling: In cast-a-spell we focused on short u. The words are becoming more challenging, keep practicing! Science: Our caterpillars are so interesting to observe. As scientists we know how important it is to study and write about our observations. We will be experiencing the life cycle of the Painted Lady Butterfly. Spelling: We will practice a new skill every week. The skill sheet is sent home every Monday. Students may practice these words from the Cast-a-Spell list that was distributed at Open House. There will be a quiz on Friday on 10 of those words. I have posted 33 of the 100 words that have to be mastered by the end of the year. These 33 words are required for the first trimester. I encourage your child to practice them right from this website. Specials Schedule: Day 1: Art Day 2: Gym Day 3 Library Day 4: Music Day 5: Gym Wednesdays @ 11:00 is Library book exchange. Reminders: Students may bring in a water bottle to class. Please have your child bring in a snack every day. Remember to have your child read as often as possible it is the best way to insure a love of reading and increase comprehension and fluency. Thank You for sharing your precious children with me!!!
