 Social Studies and Science Happenings:

During the 2011-2012 school year, Mrs. Martin, Mrs. Thompson, and I are switching classes for Reading/Language Art, Mathematics, and Science, Social Studies, and Writing. Mrs. Martin teaches Reading/Language Arts, Mrs. Thompson teaches Mathematics, and I teach Science, Social Studies, and Writing. One of my goals this year in Science and Social Studies this year is to integrate Reading/Language Arts, Writing, and Mathematics into the units I teach. 

Social Studies:

In the next few weeks, we will be integrating writing into social studies. You child will be learning about legends and will be composing their own legend based on Native American legends.

Science:

In the next few weeks, we will be completing an integrated unit on nutrition. Our nutrition unit is focused on the Iditarod, a dog sled race that occurs in Alaska every year. We will learn about how nutrition is important to both the dogs and the musher.
