Welcome to Mrs. Cairrikier's Fourth Grade Cosmic Class! How to contact Mrs. Cairrikier: If you need to contact me, you may call me at the school 704-279-3145 ext. 314 to get my voicemail. I check my voicemail throughout the day and will get back to you as soon as I possibly can. My e-mail address is cairrikierks@rss.k12.nc.us. If you have a change in your child’s daily transportation, please write me a note or call the school and contact the secretary. Social Studies and Science Happenings: During the 2011-2012 school year, Mrs. Martin, Mrs. Thompson, and I are switching classes for Reading/Language Art, Mathematics, and Science, Social Studies, and Writing. Mrs. Martin teaches Reading/Language Arts, Mrs. Thompson teaches Mathematics, and I teach Science, Social Studies, and Writing. One of my goals this year in Science and Social Studies this year is to integrate Reading/Language Arts, Writing, and Mathematics into the units I teach. Social Studies: We are currently studying North Carolina government and citizenship. Your child will be able to analyze social and political groups in North Carolina which include government, education, religion, and family. They will also analyze how these groups structure society, influence behavior, and respond to human needs. Science: In the next few weeks, we will begin our unit on rocks and minerals. In this unit, we will discover how properties can be used to identify minerals and how properties can be observed, how rocks are formed, why rocks have different properties, and how rocks and minerals are used. Writing: We are working through the writing process which includes focus, organization, support and elaboration, and style. My classes are focusing heavily on editing and revising their writing as well as taking ownership for their writing. Please Help! We are in need of band-aids, candy for our treat jar, pencils, erasers, and tissues. Any donation, big or small is always welcome in our classroom!
