Week of February 6, 2012 mary.stuart@lamarcountyschools.org *************************************************************** THIS WEEK'S AGENDA: Monday/Tuesday: The structure of the atom: Drawing models of the atom: Bellworks 2, 3, and 4 Wednesday/ Thursday: Bellworks 4 and 5: Ionic and covalent bonding of atoms A homework assignment will be given out on these two days. It will be due Monday and Tuesday of next week. Please be looking for the assignment titled ELEMENT CHART.
Friday: Writing formulas for ionic and covalent bonds ******************************************************** ABOUT THIS UNIT: Students will be given a periodic table to keep in their binders. Once we have completed labeling the periodic table, I will take a grade on it. Students MUST keep this periodic table, because they will not be given another one, as I had to copy these at Office Depot. We will use the Periodic table every day throughout this unit. Students will also be given a vocabulary handout for this unit which they will be responsible for keeping up with and studying from. THIS UNIT IS IN THE TEXT!! Please look through chapters 14-17, Unit 5. Homework assignments will be given from these chapters. ******************************************************** A NOTE ABOUT HOMEWORK!! Homework assignments are always typed handouts, and the answers come directly from bellwork. Homework is taken up the day it is due, and is not meant to be completed in class on the day it is due. Students who do not turn in homework when it is called for lose 10 points a day until the homework has been graded and passed out. After that, no homework assignment will be accepted. Homework assignments should take no more than 20-30 minutes to finish, and students are given at least two days to work on it before turning it in. ********************************************************* Science Club News!! Our field trip to theNatural Science Museum in Jackson was wonderful and we all enjoyed it very much. We have resumed meetings, and our club will start placing birdfeeders around the school. The bird feeders will be on poles placed in the ground so that they cannot be moved. Students will be asked to donate $1.00 per month toward a bird feeder, and I will purchase the feeders. Science Club students will be able to feed the birds each time we meet. If you have a birdbath that you would like to donate or sell to place on campus, please let me know! ****************************************************** Please remember that tutorial is available during 8th period in my classroom if there is makeup work to be done, or for review and practice. ********************************************************************************* Remember that science is now a 90-minute class. However, your child's class will meet on alternate days. On Fridays we will have the usual schedule of 45 minutes for all classes. Please e-mail me at mary.stuart@lamarcountyschools.org if you have a question or comment. Thanks,MaryStuart
