10/31/08

 

Grades for the first 9 weeks are now closed.  Every class has taken the Short Story Test and all but Block 1 has taken the Nine Weeks Test. 

 

All Make ups for TESTS ONLY must be completed by Monday Afternoon!

 

No textbooks next week - we will be reviewing all the tests, taking notes on how to study and doing some grammar work.  Beginning the wek of November 10 we will begin poetry.

 

Parent Teacher Conferences are on November 14 from 10 - 6.  If you need to speak with me regrading your child's performance - PLEASE EMAIL ME AND PROVIDE WITH A TIME.  That way I can make sure to spend the time with you.

It is impotant that students are present for class Wednesday and Thursday.  Students were placed in groups and each group was assigned a story that they will TEACH to the class!

9/25/08 - ALL CLASSES:  should be working on their Characterization papers!  Due dates are final - no exceptions!  We created thesis statements in EACH CLASS.  Students need to compile examples and quotes to prove their thesis statements.  I am avaialble for extra help.

The first paper assignment has been distributed to all classes. 

Characterization Paper Assignment

Particulars:

1.       Paper is Due:  Even Day:  October 1st

     Odd Day October 2nd

2.       No Late Papers for any reason.  This does include absence.  Get your paper here.

3.      You are to have a hard (paper) copy of your paper when you come to class.  No students will be permitted to go print their paper.

4.      Paper must follow district guidelines reviewed in class.

The Assignment:

 

You are to construct a comprehensive five paragraph paper that discusses character development from either “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” or “Everyday Use”.  Use one of the thesis statements created in class and support the statement appropriately. 

Requirements:

·         8 – 10 sentences minimum per paragraph.

·         3 quotes minimum per paragraph.

·         Explain the relevance of each quote.

·         Create a personality for the character you have chosen.

·         Prove your point!  The quotes will help you do this.

I am available for extra help if you need it.  Please do not wait until the last minute to complete this project.  It will count as one test grade.

 

Also - Unit 2 work were sent out.  Please refer to the claendar for due dates.  The schedule also appears below.
