Homework Hotline 704-633-9561 8th Grade Extension 8100 PLANNER INFORMATION Parents, please review your student's planner weekly. Teachers send notes when work is incomplete, missing, or needs to be made up after an absence. The teaching staff at WRMS uses the planner to improve communication between home and school. Assignments should be recorded every day. When there is no homework for a class, your student should record no HW. We encourage you to write your messages to teachers in the planner. ************************************************************* Third Quarter Begins January 25, 2010 Progress Report February 24, 2010 3 Current Events are due the Last Friday (STUDENTS ARE IN SCHOOL) of each month! Newspapers are available in our classroom. Next Due Date: January 29, 2010 Please read below for a copy of the current event requirements! GUIDELINES FOR SOCIAL STUDIES CURRENT EVENTS MRS. SCHIEMANN’S CLASS (TURN IN 3 CURRENT EVENTS EACH MONTH) 1. Find and cut out a social studies article from a newspaper, magazine or Internet site. (not more than 1 month old) 2. Read the article carefully and highlight or underline important facts. 3. Write a summary of the article following these instructions: A. Summary should be one page in length. B. Write your first and last name in the top right-hand corner. C. Classify whether the article is of state, national or international news. D. The summary must be in your own words. Any complete copying of sentences will result in a letter grade of E. E. The last paragraph of the summary should be your opinion, reaction, or thoughts about the content of the article or web-site. 4. Staple the entire article (including the continuation if it is on another page) on top of your written summary. Be sure to include the date and source of the article if it is not printed at the top. 5 Current event articles should be done weekly and placed in a folder. On the last Friday of each month, the folders will be collected and graded. Through random selection, I will ask several students to present a sample of their collection to the class; therefore being prepared for class will essential. 6. The grades for this continuing homework assignment will be included as a percentage of the students’ overall grade. Building on the fourth grade introduction, the time frame for 8th grade emphasizes revolutionary to contemporary times.
