Week #4 of the Third Quarter

FOR ALL STUDENTS - TO BE WRITTEN INTO YOUR AGENDA!

Monday 2/13: Learn about the Spinal Cord (Fusion page 211) and Nerves (Fusion pages 212-213). WRITE THE ANSWER to question #8 on Fusion page 213.

Monday Homework: PLEASE READ Holt Red pages 207-208 and look at the pictures. It is recommended that you draw a picture of a Neuron from Fusion page 213 or Holt Red page 207. Learn the parts of the neuron.

Tuesday 2/14: Study Fusion pages 214 and 215 about the main senses. WRITE ANSWERS to questions #9, #10 and #11 on Fusion pages 214-215.

Tuesday Homework: Please read Holt Red Chapter 8, Section 2 about the senses. Again, look carefully at the pictures and diagrams. Review the Section Review Summary on page 219. You are not required to copy the summary.

Wednesday 2/15:  We will study the Endocrine System on Fusion pages 216-219. READ Fusion pages 216-219 and WRITE ANSWERS to questions #13 through #15 and #17. NOTE: 5th period will attend a discipline assembly. Come to class first for attendance. 2nd Quarter report cards will be handed out during 6th period.

Wednesday Homework: READ Holt Red Chapter 8, Section 3, pages 220-223. Look carefully at the pictures on these pages. Don't forget to begin your model of an organ or organ system. The due date is on or before March 5th.


Thursday 2/16: Begin our Review of Fusion Lesson 5. WRITE ANSWERS to questions #18-21 on Fusion page 220. WRITE ANSWERS to the Lesson 5 Review on Fusion page 221. Write your name, date and class period on the top of page 211 near the "Lesson 5" heading.

Thursday Homework: Review this week's homework that you have done, especially the vocabulary and pictures. You MAY have a quiz in class on Friday! Be prepared, and bring paper and a pencil to class on Friday.

Friday 2/17: A Holt Red Chapter 8 quiz is very possible! Come to class prepared with the proper materials and the knowledge to do well. TURN IN YOUR LESSON 5 REVIEW from Fusion page 211 with your name, date and class period near the "Lesson 5" heading.

Friday Homework: Begin your organ / organ system model!  The due date is on or before Monday March 5th.  Next Monday 2/20 is President's Day.  School closed.

Monday 1/30: NOTICE: THE ARCATTACK FIELD TRIP TO CORAL SPRINGS HAS BEEN CANCELLED. REFUNDS WILL BE PROCESSED. Complete and turn in your Chapter 7 Lesson 4 Review. Begin our study of The Nervous System (Fusion Lesson 5) on Fusion pages 209-215.

Monday Homework: Prepare to come to class on time and with the materials you need each day.

Tuesday 1/31: Begin Fusion Unit 3, Lesson 5 about the Nervous System. Identify our learning goals for the week. Mr. Passman will describe them to you and then you will use your prior knowledge and a lab activity to investigate and learn about your nervous system. WRITE ANSWERS to questions #1 and #2 on Fusion page 209.

Tuesday Homework: Complete the crossword puzzles and turn them in on or before Friday. Identify your five major senses. Come to class on Wednesday ready to identify the main organ for each of these five senses. Which ones are chemical senses? Hint: See Holt Red Chapter 8, Section 2 on pages 214-219 to help you learn and understand your senses.

Wednesday 2/1: Learn about Responding to the Environment. Read about your senses using Holt Red pages 214-219. READ the objectives on Holt page 214 and then correctly complete the Directed Reading "A" worksheet in class. If you do not finish, take the worksheets home with you and bring them back completed on Thursday. COPY the Section Review Summary from Holt Red page 219 onto the BACK of the last page of your worksheets.

Wednesday Homework: Take your Directed Reading "A" worksheets home to finish the work you started in class. Don't forget to copy the Section Review Summary from page 219! Complete the crossword puzzles you received on Monday. They are due on or before Friday February 3rd.


Thursday 2/2: TURN IN YOUR COMPLETED "Directed Reading "A" worksheets! WRITE THE ANSWER to Question #5 at the bottom of Fusion page 210. Discuss involuntary life processes under the control of your brain. Compare and contrast them to voluntary processes. What is the difference between them? Learn what parts of the brain control these processes.

Thursday Homework: Think about and identify the three main areas of the brain and what their functions are. Hint: READ Fusion page 211 for the answers! Complete your crossword puzzles. They are due on Friday.

Friday 2/3: TURN IN your completed vocabulary crossword puzzles. BRING your answers to class for discussion. Begin to learn about the parts of nerves.

Friday Homework: Review and learn the parts of a typical neuron. Make a diagram of a neuron and label all of the parts.

Jan. 23 - 27 - 3rd Quarter, Week #1 Below

Monday 1/23: Complete and turn in your Chapter 7 Directed Reading "A" worksheets. We wil study Chapter 7, Section 2 - The Urinary System. Learn the parts of the kidney. See figure 2 on Holt Red page 193.

Monday Homework: REVIEW and LEARN the vocabulary definitions for the 3 "Terms to Learn" terms listed on Holt Red page 192. Learn the parts of the kidney and how it filters blood. See Holt Red page 193, figure 2. What does the word "diuretic" mean? See page 194 for the answer!

Tuesday 1/24: Complete Chapter 7. We will do a graphic organizer in class, and then take a short quiz on Chapter 7, Section 2. Then we will set up a short experiment to learn how proteins are digested.

Tuesday Homework: READ Holt Red pages 192-197.(Chapter 7, Section 2). WRITE ANSWERS to the Chapter Review questions #1 through #15 AND #20 through #23 from Holt Red pages 198-199. Have these ready to turn in at the start of class on Wednesday.

Wednesday 1/25: Turn in your Tuesday homework answers. Set up an experiment about how fats are digested.

Wednesday Homework: WRITE ANSWERS to the "Standardized Test Preparation" questions #1 through #6 on Holt Red pages 200 to 201. Have this ready to turn in when class begins on Thursday.


Thursday 1/26: Turn in your completed Wednesday homework. We will examine the experiments we have set up. Begin WRITING CORRECT, COMPLETE ANSWERS to questions #1 through #20 in your Fusion book pages 196 through 206.

Thursday Homework: Check that you have written ALL of this week's assignments into your agenda or somewhere you will have it if you are asked to show it.

Friday 1/27: WRITE CORRECT, COMPLETE ANSWERS to the Fusion Unit 3, Lesson 3 Lesson Review questions #1 through #11 on Fusion page 207.

Friday Homework: Plan what organ or organ system you want to make your 3-D model of. This will be a project grade for the 3rd quarter. We will begin to study The Nervous and Endocrine Systems (Fusion Lesson 5) next week.
