All students have been given a free dress down day on Friday to wear new Christmas gifts or Steeler attire. Jeans are permitted!

ALL STUDENTS MUST WRITE ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS IN COMPLETE SENTENCES WHEN DOING HIS/HER HOMEWORK.
HANDWRITING GRADES WILL APPEAR ON THE REPORT CARDS AT THE END OF THE SECOND AND FOURTH QUARTERS THIS YEAR FOR THE THIRD GRADE.
- students will begin receiving grades in handwriting on specific assignments
- students will receive a handwriting grade for all projects that require a written report
- students will sometimes receive a handwriting grade on spelling tests when notified by Mrs. Bittner

MATH:
- MONDAY, JANUARY 5- students are currently working on surveys and tally sheets. Students are to create a survey question and 5 to 6 choices.
- TUESDAY, JANUARY 6 - students are learning about the various types of graphs that are used to display information. The homework for tonight is worksheet 4-7 (Practice). It is due on Wednesday. Worksheet 4-7 (Enrich) may be completed for bonus points. It is on the reverse side of the paper.
- WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 7 - students are working on pictographs. They were assigned worksheet 4-8 (Practice) for homework. They were also encouraged to work on the enrichment page 4-8 on the reverse side which will count as Bonus points.
- THURSDAY, JANUARY 8- students worked on bar graphs today. No homework was assigned for tonight.
ENGLISH:
- MONDAY, JANUARY 5-students did not have class today because they had Computer class today.
- TUESDAY, JANUARY 6-students are beginning to write a friendly letter to thank someone for a gift that they received. They are to finish the rough draft at home and check all words for spelling before turning in the rough draft tomorrow.
- WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 7 - students worked on the final copy of his/her friendly letter. If the students did not have the sloppy copy corrected by a parent last evening, they are to do so tonight They are to bring the address of the person to whom they are writing and a stamp (or 42 cents to purchase a stamp.)
- THURSDAY, JANUARY 8- students addressed envelopes and prepared his/her letter for mailing.
- If your child did not bring in the address and stamp (or money to buy a stamp) they must do so by tomorrow.
SOCIAL STUDIES:
- MONDAY, JANUARY 5- Students were discussing community and how the geography of the land can change communities. The students were given an assignment that must be completed by January 14 in which they create an imaginary community and design the layout. The map must include a name and a map key.
- TUESDAY, JANUARY 6- Students are to write the definition of each of the 7 vocabulary words on page 37 in the composition book and then to use each of the seven words in a sentence that indicates that they understand the meaning of the word.
- WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 7 - Students worked on #2-5 on page 37 in the test book. We will begin working on Chapter 2, Lesson 2 tomorrow. If the assignment on page 37 is not complete, it must be completed for homework.
- THURSDAY, JANUARY 8 - no class today as our
- schedule was rearranged due to change in lunch schedule.
RELIGION:
- MONDAY, JANUARY 5 - Students finished reading Chapter 5 and were to complete pp. 57 and 58.
- TUESDAY, JANUARY 6 - Students finished all work on Chapter 5. They will have a test on Chapter 5 on Friday.
- WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 7 - students are reminded that there will be a test on Friday on Chapter 5.
- THURSDAY, JANUARY 8
GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS:
- Students should continue to work on First in Math whenever possible.
- Students should continue to word on Multiplication facts as they are a necessary element and building block for much of the math being studied this year.
- Students must return the bottom portion of the homework policy if he/she has not already done so.
- Students should continue to use his/her planner and check the homework on schoolnotes each day.
A REMINDER - MATH BOOKS SHOULD BE KEPT AT HOME THROUGHOUT THIS SCHOOL YEAR.
A REMINDER - ALL STUDENTS ARE TO KEEP THE ENGLISH TEXT AT HOME THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR.
A REMINDER - ALL SOCIAL STUDIES BOOKS ARE TO BE KEPT AT HOME UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
We ask that each student contribute at least two boxes of kleenex and two containers of Chlorox wipes ASAP. I am aware that some of the students have already brought in some of these items. I am keeping track of the students and his/her donations.
