On the Road Again:
Students have a new field trip note for our winter trip, the Nutcracker Ballet. We will be attending in December, but need to collect money and permission slips by Friday, November 6. Thank you so much for your cooperation.

What's on the menu this week, next week?
November 2-November 6
Our team is returning to the original schedule and plan with science alternating with social studies for a quarter. This week we are working in science with a revision of the Earth, its movements in space-day/night; seasons; magnetic fields

Now the technical part of the course.
Science:
General topics for science this quarter will cover the sun, earth and moon systems. The solar system and space exploration.
The goals and objectives from the NCSCOS covered this quarter will include:
- 1.03 Manipulate lab materials and equipment
- 1.05 Analyze evidence regarding observations, using inferences and predictions, explaining relationships between evidence and explanations
- 1.06 Use mathematics to gather, organize, and present data
- 1.08 Use oral and written language to communicate effectively
- 1.10 Analyze and evaluate information from a scientifically literate viewpoint by reading, hearing, or viewing
- 5.01 Analyze the components and cycles of the solar system
- 5.02 Compare and contrast the Earth to other planets
- 5.03 Relate the influence of the Sun and the Moon to effects produced on Earth
- 5.04 Describe space explorations and the understanding gained from them
- 5.05 Describe the setting of the solar system in the universe
- 5.06 Analyze the spin-off benefits generated by space exploration technology

Social Studies:
General topics for this year will include a study of Europe. We will examine both key cultural, historical, and geographical aspects of Europe. First quarter will focus on the general geography of Europe as a continent and the historical progression of European culture and influences.
The goals and objectives from the NCSCOS covered this quarter will include:
- Competency Goal 1: Students will use the five themes of geography and geographic tools to answer geographic questions and analyze concepts
- Competency Goal 2: Students will analyze the impact of interactions between humans and their physical environment
- Competency Goal 4: Students will identify significant patterns in the movement of people, goods and ideas over time and place
- Competency Goal 7: Students will assess connections between historical events and contemporary issues
- Competency Goal 8: Students will assess the influence and contributions of individuals and cultural groups
- Competency Goal 9: Students will analyze the different forms of government developed in Europe
- Competency Goal 10: Students will compare the rights and civic responsibilities of individuals in political structures in Europe
- Competency 12: Students will assess the influence of major religions, ethical beliefs, and values on cultures in Europe
