First grade has been honoring many famous Americans. We are reading about people who display strength of character in challenging circumstances. These famous Americans are men, women and even children who are admired for their achievements. Our 1st graders have been fascinated reading about the lives, dreams and courageous acts of famous Americans who have helped form the foundation of our country. We continue to build our number sense and mathematical thinking in first grade. One of the goals of Everyday mathematics is for the children to know the simple addition facts by the end of first grade. We continue to achieve “automaticity” of basic addition facts through number stories, games, and working with manipulatives, these activities help with the memorization process. We have been providing the children with many experiences to review and extend topics that were introduced in previous units, such as measuring lengths in centimeters, counting sets of coins, representing time with digital notation, and finding the range and middle value of sets of data.
In science, we continue to observe weather and the impact weather changes have on our daily life.
We are very proud of the daily achievements of our first grade students.

Students may either bring a lunch from home or purchase lunch in the cafeteria. Students may bring money in the day they purchase or may pay at the beginning of the week. If a student forgets money, they may charge their lunch. A notice will be sent home that day and the charge must be paid the following day. The cost for a lunch is approximately $2.45.
