Please note that the information below is a tentative plan for what the week holds. Plans may change due to student needs and interruptions. ALWAYS check plannner for up to date information. Be sure to clean out the BLUE take home folder NIGHTLY.

Week of  November 23-27

If your child is going to be out this upcoming week, please let me know through email or a note.  With a test in Math on Tuesday and a Quest on Wednesday in Social Studies , you may want to have your child take those in advance so they are not losing the information over the long weekend.

CLASS INFORMATION

READING:   There will be no story this week.  Instead, we will be doing a writing activity during our Reading time.  Our writings will be informational writings about turkeys.  No homework for the short week.

Please remember to do the weekly Reading assignment given out on Monday and is to be returned by Friday.  All students are to do this assignment.  Reading benefits a child. There will be NO WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT THIS WEEK OR NEXT.  LOOK FOR A NEW ONE IN DECEMBER.

SPELLING: Hopefully your child explained how I do this subject. Grades are earned on a point system with different assignments. We are now in the second grading period and this is were I start to deduct points for excessive mistakes.  The trade of is that once the student reaches 150 points they are done with spelling for the rest of the grading period.  Homework is always given out on Thursday and due back to school by Monday. We take a first test on Monday and if needed students get a second chance test on Wednesday.

Website to help practice words  www.spellingcity.com   Useful for studyingwords.

Words for the week of November 19-25

turkey, celebrate, blessings, cranberries, vegetables, friends, family, Thursday, Thanksgiving, plentiful, pumpkin, stuffing, feast, yams, fruit

ENGLISH: We will be using this time to learn about how sentences are complex and what needs to be done to have a good sentence.  No homework for the week.

MATH:  We are still working with multiplication and division.  We are now in Chapter 9 and will be finishing it on Tuesday with a test.  Look for the  practice test homework on Monday.  Remember to sign it for a bonus point.   This will be the only homework in Math for the short week.

New website to try   www.multiplication.com  filled with multiplication review games of facts.

I will be giving timed tests two times a week over basic facts.  These time tests wil ususally take place on Wednesday and Friday.  Please be sure to study addition and subtraction first, these tests will begin this week.  Once a student gets 100% of the the problems correct they will move on to the next basic fact.

SOCIAL STUDIES: In Social Studies the students will be having a QUEST on Wednesday 11/25.  They will be allowed to use their books, but I still suggest that they look over the information.

SCIENCE:   Our next area of study will be about how some weather and other natural disasters can change the shape of our Earth.  Look for homework on Tuesday.  The students will need the book to help with the assignment.  On Wednesday there will be an in class assignment for a grade.  We are just about finished with this long unit on Earth's changing shape.  I have decided not to give a whole unit test.  Instead, we will be doing an end of the unit culminating activity during class time the first week of December.
