Please note that the information below is a tentative plan for what the week holds. Plans may change due to student needs and interruptions. ALWAYS check plannner for up to date information. Be sure to clean out the BLUE take home folder NIGHTLY.

Week of  November 9-13

We are asking all the students to were RED, WHITE, and BLUE on Wednesday for our Veteran's Day assembly.

We also want to welcome our newest student Eli Al-Assaf.  He joined our class on Wednesday and has been welcomed by everyone.  He came to us from Syria.

CLASS INFORMATION

READING:   This week in reading we will be reading a new story called The Garden of Happiness.   This is a realistic fiction story.  We will be working with cause and effect again with this story.  There will be a homework assignment on Monday relating to the story and skill.  Story test will be on Wednesday.  On Thursday, the students will be doing a journal response writing with questions related to the story read in class.

Please remember to do the weekly Reading assignment given out on Monday and is to be returned by Friday.  All students are to do this assignment.  Reading benefits a child. LOOK FOR ONE ON MONDAY 11/9.

SPELLING: Hopefully your child explained how I do this subject. Grades are earned on a point system with different assignments. We are now in the second grading period and this is were I start to deduct points for excessive mistakes.  The trade of is that once the student reaches 150 points they are done with spelling for the rest of the grading period.  Homework is always given out on Thursday and due back to school by Monday. We take a first test on Monday and if needed students get a second chance test on Wednesday.

Words for the week of November 5-11

flute, view, student, whose, clue, human, juice, few, true, tube, truth, glue, dew, lose, tulip, used, due, fruit, music, rule, veteran, honor, appreciate, armistice

ENGLISH: We will be using this time to learn about how sentences have clauses in them.  There are two types: dependent and independent.  There should be no homework this week.  Most of the work will be done in class.

MATH:  We have just started working with multiplication and division this week.  I will be working out of Chapters 8 and 16.  Look for homework Monday - Friday.  Be sure to study multiplication facts.

I will be giving timed tests two times a week over basic facts.  These time tests wil ususally take place on Wednesday and Friday.  Please be sure to study addition and subtraction first, these tests will begin this week.  Once a student gets 100% of the the problems correct they will move on to the next basic fact.

SOCIAL STUDIES: In Social Studies the students will be learning about the Native American tribes that once lived in Ohio.

SCIENCE: We had a change in Science homework for Friday 11/6 (no homework was given). This week will will continue to look at weathering and how it effects landforms and what our environment looks like.  Our next area of study will be erosion.   We are still far away from the test for this unit, but the test will be covering everything done earlier and what still needs to be covered.  As we get closer, I will let you know when the test will be given.
