Welcome to Ms. Stamper's 6th Grade Social Studies

WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL.. WE ARE OFF TO A WONDERFUL START..... I am looking forward to a wonderful and exciting year. 

This week in Social Studies we will are working on the rise and Fall of Greece and Rome as well and its effect on Europe. How important these 2 countries were to the development of the world, we will  finish the Foundations of Europe. We have written our own myths and looked for columns in Salisbury. We will create our own calendars (see below for directions on how to do.. due Oct.15th). We will create our own shields in the media center using the research we find, work on key terms, we will also look at the hierarchy of the medieval times and discuss this time period as well as designing our own manors based on the hierarchy. We will also read the Novel "The Whipping Boy".


We are doing a different Quick Write writing prompt each day at the beginning of class. We will write daily.



Create a Calendar
You will create a 12 month calendar. The following is what you must do.
1. Give each Month a new name, what is the name for (24 PTS.)
2. Give each Day a new name, what is the name for (24 PTS.)
3. Give the Calendar a name, what is the name for (4 PTS.)

4. You must include at least 12 holidays with new names, what is  the holiday for and brief description how is it is celebrated (24 PTS.)

5. Decide how many days are in each month. (12 PTS.)
6. You must include a picture for each month, any kind of picture is fine. (12 PTS.)

    YOU WILL TURN IN A WRITTEN REPORT GIVING DETAILS ABOUT WHAT EACH MONTH, DAY, HOLIDAY IS NAMED FOR OR ITS PURPOSE AS WELL AS WHY YOU NAMED THE CALENDAR WHAT YOU DID.

    Put your calendar together however you chose be creative and please don’t wait till the last minute. This will count as 2 Project grades and I will not accept late projects. This is the only copy of the instructions I will give you. DO NOT LOSE IT!!. If you need help ASK!!. THIS iS DUE OCT. 15TH.

Week 2: Europe's Land and People. Globe Activity, Mapping, 5 themes Booklet, Key terms, Writing.

Week 3: Europes Foundations. Myths, Actors Masks art Activity, Key terms.

Week 4: Europe After The Fall of Rome, Middle Ages, Shields art activity, Manor Drawing, Medieval Video.

Week 5: Whipping Boy Novel, Video Medieval, Complete manor drawings.

Week 6: Whipping Boy Novel completion, Key terns, Medieval Video.

Week 7: Modern Europe Takes Shape. Key terms, Absolute Monachary Project.

Week 8: World War 1. theme Movement, Key terms, Wrtiting, Video WWI.

Week 9: Europe Rebounds. Key terms, Writing.

Reminders


* All students are expected to follow the uniform policy. Red polo shirts . Khaki twill pants.  NO "SAGGIN' AND DRAGGIN'," we want you to look like the wonderful young ladies and gentlemen we know you are.

* NO electronic equipment allowed in the classroom. If your child brings it to class and I see it I will take it from them. The item will be turned into the office and you will have to come pick it up. Simple rule to remember is "If you don't want me to take it. Don't Bring it"

* All Bookbags must be kept in lockers. They are not allowed in the classroom

* Please be aware gum is not allowed on the school grounds and in the classroom for several reasons. Students will be told and warned and if the same student(s) continue to not follow the NO GUM ALLOWED policy, the student will have silent lunch, then After school  detention, after all of the above are done we are given no choice but to send an office referral. Remind your child NO GUM PLEASE.

* Please call the homework hotline daily to find out the homework for the team. I do the hotline for our team so you can call the one number and get the homework for the Creator's Team . I have the homework on by 10:30 and the number is 704-633-2922 ext. 609. You can also leave any messages at this number for any teacher on the team.

THINGS NOT ALLOWED

  · No Jackets or coats may be worn in the classroom. Please send a uniform sweatshirt.

  · All purses will be kept in lockers. Girls may go to lockers as                   needed.

· All cell phones and electronic devices must be kept in lockers. Any brought into the classroom will be taken and YOU WILL NEED TO PICK IT UP!!
