Welcome to ![]() Read 180READ 180 is an exciting literacy program developed by Scholastic. It incorporates group work, independent reading and computer technology to provide students with high interest, skill building material. Although individual results vary, some students have improved by two grade levels in one year. 6th grade:Students are finishing Workshop 2 - "When Disaster Strikes" Students will produce individual reading projects to complete the Workshop. Workshop 3 focuses on reading fiction.7th & 8th grade:Classes are ready to complete Workshop 8 - Turning Points. In this workshop we have read about young people who have overcome great challenges. We will discuss problem solving and decision making. Our skill focus will be compare and contrast.THE STAR BOARD IS HERE!!!Students can earn stars by passing SRC tests, increasing SRI scores and meeting personal reading goals. Be sure to ask how many stars your student has added.12 POWERFUL WORDSFor the remainder of 2009 - 2010 school year we will focus on Larry Bell's 12 Powerful Words. These words have caused students to stumble on tests for years. We have used many tactics to learn our words (songs, dances, games, etc.). Have your student perform the 12 words for you. It is addictive!KNOX FAMILYPositive changes throughout Knox have allowed us to maintain a positive learning environment. Students and parents are provided with multiple chances to be an active part of the Knox family.Get Caught . . .Encouraging your student to read everyday and talking about what they are reading will reinforce the skills we are working on. Also, be a good role model. Let them catch you with a book or magazine and talk about what you are enjoying. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have about the program. You can e-mail from this site or leave a voice mail message by calling the school. My extension is 119.
