 • 8LA.2c. - The student will evaluate or revise a summary or paraphrase of the events or ideas in one or more literary texts, literary nonfiction and informational texts of increasing length and difficulty citing text-based evidence. (DOK 3)

Bellwork:  Students will complete activities from the Use It! Don't Lose It! Daily Language Practice workbook.
 
Monday- Student Holiday
 
Tuesday-  The teacher will lead a discussion on main idea/supporting details, making predictions, and making inferences, using Lessons 13, 14, and 15  from the MCT 2 Coach workbook.  Students will complete the lesson practices for 13, 14, and 15, and the MCT 2 Review Part 1 for Chapter 4 of the Coach book.  Students will copy and define the following terms from the Tennessee Academic Vocabulary list: 
        allusion
        antecedent
        bias
        clincher sentence
        coherent order
        composition
        cross-reference
        debate
        derivation
        dramatization
 
Wednesday-  The teacher will review correct answers for the lesson practices and MCT 2 Review for Chapter 4 in the Coach workbook.  Students will complete vocabulary maps for the first five vocabulary terms.
 
Thursday- The teacher will lead a discussion on summarizing and facts/opinions from Lessons 16 and 17 of the Coach workbook.  Students will complete the lesson practices for 16 and 17.  Students will view a Powerpoint presentation on tools of persuasion.  Students will read passages selected by the teacher and will evaluate the author's use of propaganda in each.  Students will complete vocabulary maps for the last five vocabulary terms.
 
Friday- Students will take a test on the first set of academic vocabulary terms.  The teacher will review the various tools of persuasion and students will complete the lesson practice for Lesson 18.  Students will also complete the MCT 2 Review Part 2 for Chapter 4 of the Coach workbook.  Students will be given a classwork grade for the lesson practice activities and a quiz grade for the MCT 2 Review.
Homework :
Tuesday- Students will complete Lesson 5 on Similes and Metaphors from the book Figuratively Speaking.
Thursday- Students will complete Lesson 7 on Personification from the book Figuratively Speaking.
