  Welcome to French class !

 Students can find some interactive activities to practice online :

 http://go.hrw.com/gopages/wl.html is the site that matches our French textbook. Select "world languages", "French", "Allez Viens! level 1". Then they click on the corresponding chapter.

***Beginning French (6th period, semester-long)

About 6 weeks into the semester, students will be issued a textbook that they will need to bring to class every day. They will also take the book home to complement the study of their class notes.

Parents, please ask your child to show you how each chapter is divided (following a certain color code). Note that at the end of each chapter, there is a glossary that follows the same color code.

Current unit: A typical meal in France

vocabulary: food vocabulary, utensals, different meals of the day.

Grammar:  

Assessment on Monday, June 03 . Students need to be able to:

  • match a French vocab word with the English version
  • answer some true/false questions based on eating traditions in France (see class notes)
  • decide on a selection of foods for the different meals of the day

***Intermediate French (2nd & 3rd periods, year-long)

Current unit : Chapter 6, what people do in their leisure time

Vocabulary: different activities you could do in your spare time.

Grammar: irregular verb aller

Assessment:  on Thursday and Friday, May 30 and 31. Students need to be able to: 

  • Read a letter and identify activities that people do in their leisure time
  • use the correct form of the irregular verb aller
  • listen and select which activities the speaker is planning over the weekend
  • choose the correct completion of a conversation (using a word bank)

***Advanced French (4th & 5th pd, year-long)

This year we are going to focus on writing and speaking. Students will write journal entries. Our goal is to incorporate the little bits and pieces of vocab and grammar that we learn into more elaborate written production.

This is the year students will take the Exit Exam (May 21, 22, 23, 24). It is part of the requirement to receive a High school credit.The Exit Exam will account for 20% of this year's grade.

Current unit : end of chapter 9

Vocabulary: asking for / giving advice

Grammar: object pronouns

Assessment : Chapter 9, Troisième étape Test on Monday or Tuesday, June 03 or 04. students need to be able to:

  • organize statements based on whether the person is asking for or giving advice
  • listen and decide whether the speaker is asking for or giving advice
  • read a letter and answer some questions in English
  • choose the appropriate object pronoun to replace a noun in a sentence
  • match a statement with the appropriate response/piece of advice
