Mrs. DeArmit’s Kindergarten Update
November 9-13, 2009
There is no school on Wednesday. Everyone who signed up for a conference should have received your conference time forms on Friday. Please understand I did my best to give everyone as close to their time as possible. If your time doesn’t work for you, let me know and we’ll pick another time. Also we only have 10 minutes each so please be prompt. We ask that you don’t bring your children as we can speak more freely without them here. Thank you.
Pizza Hut Book-it charts went home last week. They are due back November 30th.
Remember, gym clothes on Tuesday, and swim clothes on Thursday. If anyone can come for swim to help them in the locker room, that would be great. Library books are due back Friday morning (or earlier if you’d like).
Here is a look at our week ahead:
Language Arts
This week we will finish up our unit on families and have a unit test on Friday. We will re-read some of the books from the unit this week as well as hear The Amazing Porridge Pot. Our readers this week are “Time for Soup” and “My Family Has Fun”. It is N week as we meet Nyle Noodle. N show-n-tell is on Friday. We will review our high frequency words this week, and practice again with action words and position words. We’ve been talking about leaving spaces between our words as we print and the children can’t wait for you so see their journals at conference time.

Math
We continue to practice with graphs this week. On Monday we will sort and graph stuffed animals. Please send in a stuffed animal from home on Monday for us to sort and graph. On Tuesday we will work with pictographs, and on Thursday we will problem solve using graphs. Friday we will review the whole chapter.
Religion
We are returning back to our religion series with chapter 8, Jesus Teaches. We will discuss that God sent Jesus to teach his people. Jesus teaches us what to do, and we will learn about “asking prayers” in which we ask Jesus to teach us to be kind and loving. We will complete an activity called “Teach Me Your Ways O Lord”. Sr. Cathy will be here on Tuesday and mass is on Friday. Please remember your ties.
Science and Social Studies
We are continuing with our study of the pilgrims this week. Last week we learned who the pilgrims were, learned about the voyage on the Mayflower, and talked about and sampled a typical meal on the Mayflower of beef jerky, cheese, hard tack (crackers) and water. This week we will talk about The Mayflower Compact and write our own “Kindergarten Compact” or rules we promise to follow.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Have a great week.
