Week of January 23rd - 27th Hello parents and students! This will be the start of our first full week of block schedule. Remember we are in the count down for CRCT. Don't forget several teachers will be having tutoring during connections time and after school. Take advantage of the extra help.

We have several weeks before winter break and several goals to accomplish. Parents please remember to review your child's agenda book for updated announcements concerning homework AND tests. Journalism - The paper will be issued out on Wed Dec 7, 2011. The cost of the paper is $0.50. I encouurage you to support your students and purchase a copy. English Language Arts - Students will explore the struture of a paragraph and read a story about internal conflict. Any student who missed the AR test on "The Pearl" will need to make this up. Social Studies - We will begin exploring the history of the Middle East (Southwest Asia) and we will review our geographic features. Parents and Students: We will continue our study this week on tables and graphs. We have alot to study before this year (2011) ends. Please complete all assignments. Friday: Study Guide Whipple Parents and Patriots, Parents - I hope that you have had an opportunity to review your child's progress report. If your child has a grade lower than anticipated please take this as an opportunity to work with your student in completing any missed assignments. Also, please review your child's agenda book for any homework and projects that will be due in the next few week's. It is imperative that your child study and turn in ALL assignments. Journalism - students will be assigned new articles to write for the paper and we will be putting the final touches on our premiere issue. This week will be a short one because of Veteran's Day on Friday. I expect students to review, review, review over the extended weekend! As far as homework is concerned, students have standing nightly assignments: They are to review notes, a map of Southwest Asia, and watch the world news. So if students are telling parents that they do not have homework...YES THEY DO!
Last week we had to spend extra time on government vocabulary so we did not get to all of the activities planned. But students have a much better understanding of the words and meanings and that's the important thing. For the next two weeks, we will be exploring the realm of economics--internationally and in the region of Southwest Asia. Students, please continue to watch the world news so you can stay up-to-date with current events. Tacky Day October 17, School Wide Dress Up Day October 18, Spirit Day October 19 and Twin Day October 20th! Also this week will be a short week we will not have school Friday October 20th (Work Schedule Adjustment Day). Journalism and Writing students will start work using wiki spaces this week. Parents a notice was sent home last week concerning this interactive website. This tool will be use to assist student with collaborative editing and completing class assignments. Some students however did not make a 70 or higher and will be required to come to MANDATORY academic study hall Tuesday, October 25 from 4:05-5:30. In the past, I've held study hall over the span of a couple of days with a shorter time frame. But I believe it would be more beneficial to the students and more convenient for parents to have study hall on one day for a longer period of time. We will review and retest. Report cards for the first nine weeks will be available EARLY for any student that attends Math and Science Night on Tuesday at Fort! I encourage you to get your report early. Any student not able to join us will be issued their report card on Wednesday. Journalism and Writing students will receive a notice this week concerning a class "wiki" page. This web-based program will be used to help us edit and produce future editions of the Liberty Ledger. This system will be by invitation only and only visible to the members of the class. ELA students please note we will start our class novel, "The Pearl" by John Steinbeck, on Monday October 17, 2011. Students will be provided with a class copy however I encourage any student who can to purchase a personal copy. Also, we will be visiting the Media Center this week and we will take an AR test on "Song of Trees." Social Studies we will begin an exploratory assignment on Isalm, Judiasm and Christianity this week. Students will be working on developing and individual project assignment. Students and Parents, Due to school related activities that conflict with class time, the schedule for this week has changed. This week we will be focusing on reviewing, reiteration, and reteaching the geographic concepts of Southwest Asia. Students will be tested on 4 standards. We have spent adequate time in class covering the standards. Students are expected to spend a good amount of time studying and reviewing for the test themselves. I am available anytime after school if students need further assistance with the information and/or study help. Parents, please encourage students to study and do their best now that we are starting a new nine weeks. Students will have a spelling test on Friday. The class was given a sheet that states the number of words they are expected to read in and out of class. This will be their AR book readings. Please remind your child to bring their AR book to class every day. Math - Mrs. Hammond We are studying about equivalent fractions Science - Mrs. Lowry Notebook test at the end of the week. All students were given a cell project sheet with directions today. Please help child decide if they want to make a plant cell or an animal cell. Week of 8/22/2011 Hello parents, As you know we are finishing up with our MAP testing. This week we are scheduled for Science and Social Studies. For those we are testing in small group it is taking us alittle bit longer. In Science , students should expect a quiz on lab safety this week. Please review flashcards as well.
