Monkey Tales 2011

February News

Homework-

  • Reading- one page is assigned each week; please check for complete sentences. Students should read at least 15 minutes every evening. Study spelling as needed.

  • Math - Please initial all timed math sheets. Circle facts not completed during the time limit, then allow your child to finish all the facts on the page. One or two additional math pages is sent home weekly.

  • Language/Science/Social Studies- assigned as needed throughout a unit. Study guides will be provided before any test.

  • N0 PAPER HOMEWORK ON WEDNESDAY, just read and study spelling.

Tests-

  • Spelling -Everyone takes bubble test each Thursday and a call out test each Friday.

  • Reading- Story test each week (comprehension, vocabulary, targeted skills)

  • Math/Science/Social Studies- at the end of each unit (about every 2-3 weeks)

  • Language- usually a weekly grammar test with an occasional unit test to follow.

Agenda and Homework Grades - Be sure to check over completed homework daily, as it may be for a grade. Some parents like to put a check mark beside HW (homework) in the daily agenda to indicate they have reviewed it. Please sign the agenda every evening.

Graded Tests Folder - Every Friday, students will bring home a Graded Paper Folder with a form to be signed. Review all papers and return all the tests and the signed form in the folder the following school day. Please understand that 3rd grade is typically a challenge for many students. Teacher must prepare all students for the state tests, so weekly reading/language/math tests will be formatted with extra questions similar to the MCT2.

New Grading Scale for Lamar County Schools- A 90-100; B 80-89; C 70-79; D 65-69; F below 65.

Birthdays- We don't have birthday parties, but you are welcome to send cookies or cupcakes that we'll pass out in the afternoon. Please do not send cakes.

P.E. - A calendar will be sent home each month with important dates. BE SURE YOUR CHILD WEARS TENNIS SHOES ON P.E. DAYS!!!!!!

Absences and Transportation- Please send a note if there is a change in how your child is going home. Please send a note after any absence. Fridays are important test days, so make sure your child is present! If for some reason he/she will be absent, please let me know so I can give those test early. This works better that waiting until the next week.
