A message from Robert Redford on behalf of YoungArts

Dear Educators:

For artists, the path to achieving one’s dream is not always easy. Along the way there is rejection, doubt and self-reflection. There are shining moments as well, such as when a teacher or a mentor who believes in us inspires us to continue our journey. Many artists, myself included, would not be where we are today without such a teacher coming into our lives at just the right moment.

As a YoungArts Master Teacher, I have witnessed how YoungArts can enhance the drive and nurture the passion you have helped to instill in your students. By encouraging them to apply to YoungArts, you can help us identify and support the nation’s next generation of artists in the visual, literary, design and performing arts. YoungArts applicants are eligible to receive:

  • cash awards of up to $10,000 ($500,000+ awarded annually)
  • access to significant scholarships from colleges
(approximately $75 million in the past two years)
  • a chance to be recognized as a U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts
(YoungArts is the exclusive nominating path for this designation)
  • a lifetime access to career opportunities and a network of 20,000+ alumni
  • a chance to appear on the three-time Emmy-nominated HBO series YoungArts MasterClass
  • a chance to participate in master classes with world renowned artists
  • the opportunity to perform/exhibit your work in some of the most prestigious venues around the country

I am not alone - many other YoungArts Alumni and Master Teachers, such as Renée Fleming, Frank Gehry, Josh Groban, Judith Hill, Wynton Marsalis and Andrew Rannells, can also attest to the life-changing experiences YoungArts offers aspiring artists:

Thank you for all that you have done, and continue to do, for our nation’s young artists. If your students are ages 15-18 or in grades 10-12, I hope you will consider doing one more thing for them: persuade them to continue to pursue their passion and apply to YoungArts. The October 17 application deadline is quickly approaching, so please encourage your students to apply today. To learn more about the application process, visit youngarts.org/apply, email [email protected] or call 800.970.ARTS (2787).

Sincerely,
