Independent Study

Form Directions, Grading, Critiques, Room Rules

Forms

All forms must be completed and handed in within 7 days of the start of the school year or semester if participating for half the year. I accept a maximum of 7 independent study students on a first come, first served basis. Be very specific when you complete the guidance department form and note with detail what you will accomplish. Project timelines and details will keep you on track and will be the basis for grades.

Guidance Form for Independent study:

#1, Why: Note the absence of the class that you wanted to take if appropriate.  Note your particular interest in Art and your college/career aspirations

# 2, Goals: List the total number of works that you will complete as well as the subject matter, approach to art, theme/content, materials, techniques and processes and any special issues that you will be dealing with (i.e. Sense of light and form, composition, perspective, color, paint surface).

#3, Activities to accomplish Goals: Note the class period that you will be working in the art room. Include a breakdown by quarter with subject matter, artwork size, artwork materials, techniques, processes, number of works and the studies and sketches that will be done. Include due dates for each project so that the teacher is not overwhelmed at the end of the quarter. This will be the basis for your quarterly critique and grade.

Grading and Final Critiques

One specific day each week, all independent study students must have a group critique with the teacher. We will meet after school or during a class period depending on schedules. Each student must arrange a final comprehensive final exam critique for the class, which the student should be well prepared to discuss their work and ideas in a professional artistic manner.
