Second Chance Alternative Learning Environment

(S.C.A.L.E)

The Second Chance Alternative Learning Environment program commonly referred to as S.C.A.L.E, is an alternative learning program that seeks to teach students to change aggressive and inappropriate behaviors and to increase academic achievement through behavior modification. When students exhibit behavior that disrupts the educational process for others as well as themselves, placement in the S.C.A.L.E program gives them a chance for success. Success depends on the commitment of the parent, student and school.

The two main goals of the program are:

  1. Remove consistently disruptive students from the regular classroom
  2. Teach student appropriate behaviors that will allow them to successfully return to the regular classroom

The program objectives:

  1. To provide an alternative setting for students who exhibit inappropriate behavior
  2. To develop a plan to help change negative behavior
  3. To each positive behavior
  4. To maintain and advance academic achievement
  5. To help students return to the regular classroom once positive behavior has become consistent
  6. To provide an alternative to long-term suspension whenever possible

Students are given a daily assignment sheet as well as a behavioral monitoring chart. Please ensure that your child shares this with you at the end of the school day. All students need to return these, signed by their parent or guardian, the following day.

Success means having the courage, the determination, and the will to become the person you believe you were meant to be” ~ George Sheehan
