Sixth Grade:

Sixth Grade Midterm Review

Composition Topics:

 Personal narratives – tell which pronouns are used, structure of writing, know that the events discussed must be true. Know also how to combine short sentences, expand your simple sentences.

Business letters- know the appropriate format and the four purposes. Know what each paragraph should include.

How-to – know the importance of chronological order when following directions; the importance of transitional words in writing. Remember the audience when telling a story.

Grammar topics: direct objects, indirect objects, singular and plural nouns, possessive nouns, prepositions, subject complements, linking verbs

Vocab Topics:

 Study unit 9  definitions and synonyms

 

Students are working on writing professional business letters.

Please bring markers to class. Spelling test on Unit 7 next Friday.

 Seventh Grade:

Students are working on writing book/movie reviews.

English Seventh Grade Midterm Review

Part 1:

Study personal narratives, movie reviews, and business letters

Personal Narratives – tell which pronouns are used, structure of writing, know that the events discussed must be true. Know also how to combine short sentences, expand your simple sentences.

Movie Reviews – know that it is NOT a book report where you retell the story, but rather a critique where an opinion and evaluation is provided along with a brief synopsis of the events minus the ending.

Business letters – know the appropriate format and the four purposes. Know what each paragraph should include.

Part 2 – Grammar

Topics: direct objects, indirect objects, singular and plural nouns, possessive nouns, prepositions, subject complements, linking verbs

Part 3 – Vocab

Study units 3 and 10 definitions and synonyms.

Eighth Grade:

English Eighth Grade Midterm Review

Composition Topics:

Business letter and application Unit

Playwriting Unit

Personal narrative

***typical questions will reflect these units and be in short answer/essay form. They will resemble the activities completed in the composition section of the notebook.

Study formats of a business letter, structure, appropriate tone, how to fill in an application and a check.

Playwriting study how to write dialog and directions for an actor or actress.

Research report study bibliography structure, note cards and outlines.

Religion

Students are working on a saint project. It is a research based paper and students must come prpared to work on it in class with their sources. Due : January 13, 2012
