Class Rules,Expectations and Goals

I. Classroom rules:

  • Be on time and on task as soon as you enter the classroom.
  • Have homework on your desk ready to be checked.
  • Always be respectful and considerate towards everyone around you.
  • There is no talking, unless you have raised your hand and have been given permission.
  • If you choose to break these rules a warning will be given only the first time.  However lunch duties, teacher detention, or central detention will be given for subsequent incidents of misbehavior.  Participation points will also be lost accordingly.

II. Bring the following to class:

  • A one-inch binder with pocket separators – every day
  • Covered textbook – every day
  • Workbook – when assigned
  • A red pen to check HW and any other color pen for taking notes – every day
  • Spanish-English dictionary – every day

III. Homework:

  • Will be given daily unless otherwise mentioned.
  • Is expected to be done on a timely manner. No late HW will be accepted.
  • It is your responsibility to get HW whenever you’re absent and to bring it in the next time you come to class.

IV. Absences:

  • You are responsible for all notes and assignments missed during an absence.
  • Read the section in the textbook that you missed and do your best  to complete the HW.
  • Check new.choolnotes.com to get updated with HW.

V. Testing:

  • Quizzes will be given every week unless otherwise announced.
  • A test will be given at the end of each chapter.
  • If you are absent on the day of the test, be prepared to take it on the first day back to school.
  • If you are absent during the review time and on the day of the test, it is your responsibility to  arrange with me to review and take the test/quiz no later than a day for each day absent.

VI. Quarterly grading will be asfollows:

  • Tests – 40%
  • Quizzes – 40%
  • Homework – 15% - the student starts with 100 HW points and is expected to maintain them by always
completing his HW on time.  For each time that the student does not do and complete his HW, 5 HW points will be deducted in this category.
  • Class participation – 5% - All students start off with 100 points in class participation.  They are all expected to maintain their 100 points by coming to class prepared (with textbook, binder, pens, etc.) and staying on task throughout. They are expected to stay involved in every class activity.  However, if the student is unprepared, and chooses to be disruptive and/or uncooperative, 5 participation points will be deducted for each incident.

VII. Cheating and its consequences:

Cheating is a very serious offense and will be dealt with according to the guidelines stated on

the St. Joseph’s Handbook.  If the student is caught cheating, he will be given a “0” on the test, quiz,

or assignment cheated on. Parents and the Dean of Students will be notified. The student will be given

a Saturday detention along with the loss of certain privileges and honors for his entire HS career.

VIII. Goals:

To be able to function in Spanish at a novice-mid level, demonstrating the ability to:

  • Greet
  • Describe self and others
  • Talk about the weather
  • Talk about school subjects
  • Tell time
  • Tell dates
  • Talk about sports
  • Say what you like and don’t like

  • Talk about things that happened in the past
  • Make certain commands
