Welcome to first grade! This month our class will complete units on Friends and Family. We learn about what it means to be a good friend. Students will share news about how their families care for them and activities they enjoy together. We are learning a lot about working together in the classroom. The character traits of responsibility, respect and caring for ourselves and others are reviewed often. We will also discuss "needs and wants" as well as the season of fall, our five senses and Constitution Day. We will work on topics in the first two units of both math and Fundations. Review the parent info letters that will come in your child's daily red communication folder to get details regarding what skills will be taught. A blue folder will go home at the beginning of each month with several tasks to practice throughout the month. There will always be directions to go along with all items. Shared Reading with the whole class will take place daily as well as frequent small group sessions. Reading comprehension and writing practice will include using the "Braidy" StoryBraid. An introductory letter and directions as well as pictures of the Braidy puppet are included to assist with practice at home when you work with your child. Our days are full of busy learning experiences for each of us! I hope to see you at Curriculum Night on the 22nd to share information about what your child does each day. The students have a 10-15 minute snack time each afternoon. Your child's specials are:
Monday: Library, P.E. Tuesday: Art, Library Wednesday: Music Thursday: P.E., Art Friday: Music, Spanish |
