Weekly Newsletter…

School Picture Day: September 28th. All students will be photographed for annual!

Harvest Carnival: October 14th 5:30-8:00. 5th grade is helping with donations for spaghetti supper. We are asking for desserts and drinks. Also, tickets are $5.00 per plate. Please support our PTO and try to sell as many tickets as possible!

If anyone knows where to find LARGE pine cones for an art activity, please contact me!!! I need the really big ones!!!!!

PLANNED ACTIVITIES:

READING: We will complete our Unit 1 Assessment on Monday.  We will begin the selection Inside Out on Tuesday. The skill for this selection is compare and contrast. Students participate in whole group instruction, small group, stations, and intervention which address skills for the week and review of previously covered skills. Our reading quiz will be on Monday October 3.  Students should complete any unfinished work from stations at home. This is a portion of their reading grade. Students should also be reading AR books at home daily and completing their AR reading log. This is also part of their reading grade.

LANGUAGE: We will begin regular and irregular plural nouns on Tuesday. Our grammar and spelling quiz will be on Monday October 3. We utilize our grammar and spelling workbooks to practice these skills. We also review these skills during reading stations. Students also complete a daily journal entry. This is graded every 5-10 days! Please make sure students complete each entry!

MATH: We will continue to work from Chapter 2.  Students complete a Spiral Review of skills each day and will be tested periodically from these reviews. They will also have weekly, timed multiplication quizzes. This seems to be a major weakness at this point for a large number of students. They must study these daily if they are to improve. We will be utilizing small group instruction/intervention in math as well. We will implement AMSTI math games which correlate to our textbook and Course of Study. We have homework assignments every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Any work not completed in class on Wednesday and Friday is also homework. Please check that your child is completing all assignments!

SCIENCE: We will continue our study of the Solar System. We will continue our work with solar water heaters. We will supplement this kit with our textbook and informational videos from Ignite!

SOCIAL STUDIES: We have completed Week 1 Social Studies Weekly. Study guide is due on Monday. We will have our first SS quiz on Tuesday. We will begin Week 2 on Wednesday. We will also utilize on-line videos and Ignite! software as well.

Reminders:

Don't forget the contest at Addison Discount Pharmacy. Our classroom can win $$$!!!!!! Please tell your family and friends to consider voting for our classroom!!!!  

Parents, you should receive a grade sheet from your child each time they take a Reading, Spelling, and Grammar quiz. Other tests will be returned as soon as they are graded. It is their responsibility to bring them home!

You may sign up on line for AR Home Connect so you can view your child's progress in AR. Remember that AR counts as three reading grades.

Any and all work not completed in class is homework!!!! When a child is absent, they must make up any missed work. It is their responsibility to complete all assignments!!!!!

 I also collect Boxtops for Education! If you can save or collect those, they are worth 10 cents each! It really adds up! Any and all help is appreciated!
